I'm not sold on the color palette in use here, tbh, but it looks like you made do with it as best you could.
Story-wise, I can only conclude that the player is a villain. An indigenous revolt against a colonizer? The colonizer is the villain there. You are sent with the express purpose to quell the rebellion, making you an accessory to the colonizer. Not sure what the sinister thing beyond that is, since I couldn't find the second key in town, but from what I got of the story you do not play a hero. What better horror than realizing you are the baddie, no?
Music is spooky, and loops well. The lack of sound effects made the game feel like it was missing something though.
In all, a solid entry.

How does your game meet GBJam's theme?
It has a resolution of 160x144. 4 colours. 4 channel OST. Is spooky. Only uses A, B and the Arrow-Buttons. And also pretty cool considering working on it after work and only 10 days to finish (^: Have fun.

Nice game! The art is great and the story is interesting. Unfortunately most of the text was cut off on the left side for me. I also think the enemies were a bit difficult. They move very fast and turn invisible for a bit after being hit, which makes it difficult to keep track of where they are. Overall, nice story and world!
I managed to finish. I really liked the art and the intelligent use of the palette (the same blue is the character and the waves, the same red is the blood and the sand on the beach). It's cool that there are so many assets and even lore in such a short time.
The main problem I had was two narrow boat stairs. I almost didn't make it. When the ladder is double it is much easier. The combat is a bit difficult, I think I got by with tricks because they attack quickly and the hitbox confused me a little.
The music is good, just short and there are some bugs (the character sometimes got stuck in the boat phase or the text went off the screen), but it was a great job.
The atmosphere and not throwing what should be done in the player's face are also design choices that I like.
Hey! Congrats for your entry!
The art and sounds are very good, and I find the first cut scene very interesting. However, I think there might be major bugs in your game since I couldn't find a way to go past the boat, right after the first cut scene : I talked to everybody, interacted with every item possible, totem included, but I couldn't find a way to do more.
Pretty good game, the gameplay was a bit difficulty yet the rest of it specially the cutscene compensed it, overall it's an great game and a good competitor for the jam!
I talked to the totem thing, got a cutscene, and then it took me back to the totem? I can’t find anything else to do, but the screenshots show that you do have more. Let me know if I’m missing something and I’ll try again!
Thanks! It took a bit of button mashing at different angles, but I got it this time :)
I can tell that a lot of work went into this, especially the world-building and lore. I love the creature design! It looks to me like the limitations of Pixel Game Maker might have made it difficult to play to your strengths in this jam. If you like RPG Maker, GB Studio might be worth a try for the next GBJAM!
