Is it okay to use music from royalty-free platforms like "Epidemic Sounds"? Because in order to use them royalty-free you have to pay a monthly fee, but then are allowed to use everything on their platform.

nope.

for one, because people can't go and get that music for free, and for 2, because you won't be allowed to re-distibute that music (when you share your open source, you're re-distibuting, as you're giving access to that sound file on its own).

Redistribution would be a separate aspect, there are quite a few assets out there that are freely available, can be used in any game (often even a commercial one) but can't be redistributed on their own.

As long as access to them is completely free, they should be fine for this jam, if you provide references to where those assets can be gotten from.

Nonetheless, the best option would be to use completely free assets so one could just fetch the project and build it oneself without any extra steps...

Hey, sorry for the late response. Really busy the last couple of days. It would be nice, but I don't know how much you can rely on us, because we are doing this besides our 8 hour work time and private hobbies. So we don't know how much we will accomplish. But thank you for the offer :)
