Beautifully executed idea, great work
I think this is a cool idea. It reminded me of playing Resident Evil 1 back in the day. The spirit box didn't seem to do anything from what I could tell. I like the picture mode as it allows me to see all of the room easily. I wasn't sure what to do though. I wondered around for a little while, but didn't know what to do. Adding some creepy music would help the atmosphere.
maybe you never turned it on? It make static until you are near a haunt event you can take a picture of, then it makes a VERY noticeable difference. I think i should have made the tutorials a bit less cryptic. I'll work on that for future games!
(also there is music in the game...but it happens later)
I was super confused on what to do... It felt like this game didn't really work for me. lol. I heard the talking and tried to understand the note about taking a picture or whatever, but nothing ever showed up for me...
I also had no idea how to quit the game... No escape menu or anything. I ended up just ALT+F4ing out. lol
If the spirit box goes off, that means there is something in the room you need to take a picture of. If the picture captured is evidence, it will store in your photo album and the spirit box will return to the normal static sound. The first thing you need to take a picture of is the rocking horse. I'd appreciate it if you gave it a 2nd shot!
I had moments where I had no idea what I was doing and the gameplay felt a little shallow even when I figured it out, although it's worth playing for the visuals and atmosphere alone.
Thank you for playing!
This game really sells the atmosphere well as I got very excited to explore the house! The graphics and atmosphere got me very immersed in this. I would say, moving the character took me a little while to get the hang of but then felt nice to use. For the gameplay, I was pretty lost for the most part on where to go after exploring the house. I got to the part with the camera and spirit box, but I wasn't sure where to go or do next. The spirt box was making noises in the camera room, but I didn't see anything in the camera or interact with. I wasn't able to finish the game, but from the way it looks and sounds, nice work!
You need to take pictures of haunted objects, or areas where recent haunting events happened. The spiritbox goes off to let you know that there is something that general area to take a picture of. Try taking a picture of the rocking horse in the room you find the camera in, that will get you started.
Ahh gotcha, thanks for the guide! I will give this a play tomorrow morning and try to finish it as this game looks too good to pass up!
Thanks! All photographables set off the spirit box and the triggering sound goes away once you capture it (your photo album which enables after gathering your first piece of evidence will also show progress / the haunted photo graph)
10/10 - A fun fixed camera ghost hunting game with a surprisingly good story, all delivered in a compact amount of time.
I've checked out tons of these competitions over the years, and played countless amounts of indy titles. This is the one that finally made me make an account so I could leave a comment. This guy just gets it. The fixed camera goodness of Fatal Frame, Resident Evil, Eternal Darkness and more recently Signalis. The exploring a haunted area vibes of Phasmophobia, Ghost Exorcism INC. and Demonologist. A blend of horror past and present all tied up in a neat little package that doesn't overstay it's welcome.
Wow, thank you! I'm glad you enjoyed it! :)
Excellent submission. Controls were easy to get used to and the main mechanics were simple and effective. You could easily expand this into a bigger project if you wanted to.
