Jam Host

Hello! Welcome to Feedback Quest 7! My name's Hythrain and I'm one of the hosts and one of the streamers for this event! This feedback is being written live as I stream your game! If you're interested in seeing my live reaction, let me know and I can send you a link to the VOD once it's posted to YouTube!

So my normal approach for any game in these events is simple: I get the game, make sure it's not a virus, then play it with as little information on how to play as possible. This way, I can judge how intuitively someone can figure out the game. Only if it's obvious that I need to read more will I do so. I note this so you can get a sense where some of these feedback comes from. In addition, I want to note that feedback and rating are different; don't use this feedback to gauge what I'll rate, nor should you view my rating as entirely indicative of my feedback.

I found myself driven by one thing: getting as much as the song to play as I could. However, the RNG with move speeds can be really punishing. The vast majority of my deaths were because there was no possible way to do the jumps to not get hit. If you don't want to mess with the RNG speed thing, the best way to address this would be to create a double jump. This would enable players to have more control and be able to handle RNG better. Other than that, it is what it says it is. :D

I appreciate the feedback!

right now I am working on changing the spawning system to make the game more playable, so it will update in a few minutes.

could you send me a link to the VOD once its on youtube?

I played this game on my stream (VOD).

I found the game kind of hard to play, and kept dying a lot. I'm also pretty terrible at the Chrome dinosaur game..

That being said, sometimes the mobs would spawn in a pattern that I'm not sure if there's a way to avoid dying. Maybe moving left/right would help but I couldn't really figure it out.

Overall, fun, but maybe tweak the difficulty a bit so it ramps up slowly, and possibly adjust the spawns so it's always possible to jump over everything?

Developer

thanks for the feedback!

I noticed there were a few comments talking about the difficulty, but right now I am working on another game jam, but I will update it in the future

Developer

also you can move left and right and with a and d

I like the MS Paint type art. Unfortunately, I almost never get more than one jump in because the three individuals afterward would always clump really close together so even if I got over one or two, I would bump into one of the others before I could jump again.

A minor comment about the game page. You might change the dark text to white, orange or yellow since it barely stands out from the background.

thanks for the feedback!

I designed the game in a way that makes the enemies move in a group at the beginning and then gradually spread out. From my experience you can jump over the group of enemies, maybe I could because I played the game for like 5 hours in the process of creating it.

Anyways I’ll try to make it more possible lol

You probably already know this, but you should add a collision or a limit to keep the player from going off the screen. You could divide the background into two parts: a static sun or moon, and the rest of the current repeating background. A tip, It's not necessary to place the player in the center of the screen; you could lower the ground and put all the UI at the top with a more visible aesthetic. Besides that, this type of game has many mechanics to explore and combine. Good job, Keep going!!

Developer

thanks!

Simple, but it does the concept of endless runner well.  It could do with more variety of enemies, though it mixes things up with different speeds, making moving left and right important. There is no UI, but I'm not sure if it even needs anything other than the score. I guess maybe a best score in a corner and a pause screen. Anyway, nice entry.

Developer

thanks!

The concept of the game is good, but I think the artistic section is bad because it mixes many drawings of different styles and sizes and also has not UI.

Developer

thanks, could you elaborate more, like which images specifically don’t match?

In general, I recommend making new images with the same style, I also think that there should be a UI where you can buy power ups to make the game more interesting
