endless tug of war...

i am tired

Developer(+1)

ooooooooooooo 1.0, nice!

we’re not exactly happy with the way the game ends, in a way you always end up in a stalemate should have put a cap on the decay, probably having this level you reached be the maximum

Developer(+1)

Excellent score! Makes me wish we’d really added an ending instead of letting people fall into that tug-o-war.

I'll begin with criticisms, then gush about everything I loved about this.

First of all, making the player return to an earlier "decay level" after failure feels awful. I already beat that level, and if it took a long time to beat, it just feels like a slap in the face to someone trying to progress. Bad design.

Entering the ship without enough speed can result in you not having enough momentum to reach the floor. That also feels really crummy, especially when trying to move as fast as possible. Now I gotta watch my guy fall down, then accelerate again, and oops! I missed it again.

Tangentially related, people have suggested a way to jump while inside the ship. Absolutely a good suggestion.

On a different note: The graphics are amazing. The music is nice. The player movement felt good. I appreciate the sound effects when certain objects break. I wish every object had its own SFX.

I haven't seen anybody make it this far, so I thought I'd brag:

I honestly don't know if beating this level is humanly possible, but it felt pretty good to make it this close to decay 0.

All around, great game.

Good Game!

The visual style and overall charm are just beautiful!! The game feels very simple, and there really isn't much content so far, but the polish is through the roof! It's very satisfying, and I love the background depth/layering. I can definitely see the potential for this to be made into a fully finished game.

Overall awesome experience. Great work!

-D

Developer(+1)

Thanks so much! I think it’d be cool as a full game too, with more ships and content.

Submitted(+2)

Good job, I really enjoyed it, only little annoying thing was getting back on the ship or moving from the left to the right of the ship.

Submitted(+2)

Super fun and engaging! Great job!

I loved the game, very original and fun. I found it a bit hard to control, but it seemed like that was what you were going for. Stuff breaking all the time reminds me of my home when I have to fix stuff (like broken door hinges etc. :D)

I would only add a small hop when the spaceman is on their spaceship. It felt weird to me that I could use jetpack in zero-G but not jump.

Great work overall!

β€œlike broken door hinges etc. :D”

hah! that hit too close to home for me, my door knob fell out the other day, almost got stuck in my room

the gap has been a hot topic of debate and we got a couple of good suggestions of how to make it better from the jam feedback. it was a mix of time and us testing it being desensitized to it after a while (you really get used to it and it stops being a problem). would definitely think of a better way if we could do it again

thanks for the feedback!

Submitted(+2)

Cool game, visuals and graphics are so good. But it hurts so much when something breaks immediately after fixing it haha

Submitted(+2)

very good game the loop is fun and addictive, the only feedback i have is to make the controls more snappy and make it little bit easy to get onboard the ship, i got hit by the floor so many times. good job submitting this ΰ΄¦ΰ΅ΰ΄¦ΰ΄ΏοΌˆβ€’ Λ• β€’γƒž.ᐟ

Developer(+1)

Thanks! Yeah, by the time we thought about maybe altering the controls, it was way too late to be safe in a jam.

I finally beat 2.5! Weirdly addicting flying around in space :) and I see everyone talking about the hole, I think it just adds an extra layer of challenge and gives skilled players more of an edge, which I think is good!

I think what I would love to see is parts deteriorating over time so you can see in advance which part is about to break. But I understand that's not how your RNG system works. Cool stuff!

Edit- beat 2.0, couldn't beat 1.5

Developer

Nice score! And, yeah, if we could have just thought of any one of these great ideas, we would totally have changed how the decay works.

Submitted(+2)

I really like this game. I reached till 2.5 but then I struggled around for 10 mins and knew I won't be beating this after all and gave up. Idk how people reached 1.5. Most of the time the machine I fixed got broken right away. The astronaut is a bad mechanic and can't even jump lol.

Well executed game. You could have added some code to make the machine wait for a few seconds before it got broken again. But, if it was intentional for the difficulty, then I don't mind. Great mechanics and use of theme.

Developer

honestly… we also have no idea how they managed that, we couldn’t get past 2.5 ourselves either!

the stuff breaking right as you fix it was just an accident of how the breaking mechanics work, if we could go back we’d made each device have a more predictable breaking frequency

thanks a lot for the feedback

Submitted(+3)

Very good game.

It's repetitive but everything (except that hole in the ship that we can't jump) is well made.

Submitted(+2)

The art is suuuper cool, great idea for theme integration as well! Had some trouble getting back into the ship if I wasn't blasting the jetpack but it was negligible after a while. Well done!

Developer

thank you! glad you had a good time with it πŸ‘¨β€πŸš€

Developer

Glad you liked the concept and art!

Submitted(+2)

Really cool game that feels very vibe-y. The art is beautiful and the tether + jet pack is a very fun movement mechanic.

One minor gripe I had was having to leave the spaceship just to cross to the other side. It would be cool to fix this by adding a semi-solid platform that you have to "crouch on" (press down) to go through.

Developer(+1)

hey this might be the best suggestion about how to solve the ship β€œhole” problem we got so far, thank you so much for the feedback, glad you enjoyed it πŸ‘¨β€πŸš€

Developer(+1)

That’s such an elegant solution… how did we not think of that!?

Submitted(+2)

What do I get?

No seriously, this game is super fun, the music is top, and the change when your orbit gets too low creates so much tension.

Developer

woa….. this is out of this world, I legit don’t even know how this is possible

you get an endless level of respect (and gratitude for having spent time to get this good at our little game)

Developer

I reaaaaally wish we had the leaderboard setup for this… in lieu of that you’re added to the page

Developer

let us know if you rather be mentioned by name/user there and link to your game

Developer

I’m in awe… you honestly should get something for this crazy score

Nice Game

Submitted(+2)

It took me waaay to long to figure this game out. I thought I was crazy reading all those comments here. But now I get it, just repairing all red objects (even outside the ship, I thought only inside). Now it has become somewhat easy although nice challenge to go further on the decay level!

Developer

hah! thank you so much for sticking to it despite not getting it at first πŸ‘¨β€πŸš€

Developer

Glad you stuck it out and figured it out!
