"Your hamfisted attempt to save the town has failed" had me rolling XD Art is unique and looks great, and I was surprised how quickly I picked it up and it became second-nature. Great implementation of rock-paper-scissors, congrats on your first full game without a guide!

I also want to praise the art!!

Like everyoen else I think a good tweak would be choosing weapons that lend themselves better to a rock paper scissor matchup visually and intuitively.

And then despite seeing how the theme is incorporated I also think it gets a bit lost because there is no real gameplaly difference between “you, the knight” switching weapons and you handing him a different weapon.

Awesome job for a first completed project, I really dig the stylistic choices. I think you could have leaned even harder into the cardboard-y thing and it would probably be even better as a small puppet play kind of thing which is the vibe i got

it would be nice to have a clearer explanation for the rock paper scissors type weapon matching. maybe you could make both the knight and the kobolds use the same 3 so its more recognizable as RPS, and/or introduce them with a tutorial

I totally agree - we're working on putting together a quick "how to play" screen for the next update! It should (hopefully) clear things up. Thanks for playing!

The art is excellent, I like the interpretation of the theme! I beat it a few times since it only took a minute or two (plus I liked killing those kobold sprites)
Nice job completing a project!

Really cool style for the pixel art! Well made, although some sound effects would have gone a long way, and the rock, paper, scissors element was a bit strange and unintuitive (a slow hammer beats a fast dagger?).

Congrats on your first game.

Great Areas:

  • I loved the setting and the character art. It felt playful and entertaining, while having a unique styling to the theme.
  • Enjoyed the enemies
  • Would enjoy seeing a full game version of this!

Improvement Areas:

  • While music and more difficulty would have added to the length of play, I think Sound effects and a tutorial would have been better wins.
  • Think about introducing different weapons via a tutorial, you could have had some fun story elements baked in.
  • There was zero sound or music so had to give 1 star :(

This is all really great feedback, and you're absolutely correct - we've added it in, and the game is much better with sound. (^_^;)

After the voting period ends, we'll be updating the game with what we've already fixed, and hopefully with some new features as well. I hope you check it out again when that happens, and thanks for the feedback!

Yes, please post when you have an update to review.

The idea is really good and the art is REALLY good! The idea is executed well for someone’s first finished game. I think next time be sure to include some sound effects. They add a lot for a game. Good job!

Please try our game out and tell us what you liked and what you thought could be better. Thanks!

If only I had known how quickly I could get those sound effects/music files in - I really dropped the ball there. We have them added in now and it really helps the game feel more like a game. I just wish I didn't have to wait for judging to end in order to update  (^_^;)

I'll definitely try to give you some feedback on your game - thanks for the feedback on ours!
