How does your game fit the theme?
You control a ship and needs to use the day (calm times) to upgrade your defenses before the night (stormy times) arrives with the monsters.

Did you write all the code and made all the assets from scratch?
No, I made all the code, but the sprites, audio were not made by me.

Fun experience

Hey, Nice one. I liked the audio and the onboarding. It was a bit long onboarding but it was fun. Had a fun experience overall. Dialogues were great. Good job.

Made it to night 5! I found that i used almost exclusively the side cannons and just strafed around them, then just upgraded attack speed a lot. The clicking on the bottom right was a bit awkward, and pressing Q and E were a bit odd when using WASD i found. Loved the sound design btw, those cannons just sounded so beefy. Also loved the banter between the crew and the tutorial built into the game

Developer

Thanks for the feedback, I apreciate that you enjoyed the audio design and the crew (it was one of the coolest parts for me) I will try to improve some things after the jam.

Thanks a lot!!!

I think the game is really good. To improve on it you could consider this:

  • I think the dialogue every time you die should be able to be skipped in entirety with a button to skip it in one click, it can slow down replaying the game and trying again when it has to be seen in entirety. Clicking on the lower right is pretty slow, I mean to skip it entirely with a separate button.
    • Even better, it should be possible to press a key on the keyboard to do this so it's even quicker.
  • The tutorial in the beginning should be able to be skipped entirely.
    • I checked, and I think you keep track if the tutorial was seen once and have a separate button in the first screen for Play and Replay tutorial. I checked just in case, but didn't expect you to do that. But you did, and that's bonus points for you.
      • However, I still think the dialogue that shows every time you die should also be able to be skipped in one easy step as well, ideally with both a button on screen and a specific key on the keyboard to be even quicker to skip it. It gets really repetitive to see this dialogue each time retrying
        • It comes off as unnecessary padding or filler when it's missing this (whether it was intended or not) and the irony is, I think you have quite a bit of good content here and really don't even need this kind of padding for this game.
  • The mouse left click on the lower right to continue dialogue is not positioned well, and there should be another way to perform this action than clicking, such as pressing a key on the keyboard. The reason is because it's too easy to accidentally buy resistance at the very beginning, because it's placed in the same location as the dialogue continue button.
    • In case I missed what this key might be, let me know, but it was not mentioned inthe itch.io page. I think I tried each key, and none worked, only clicking the button works.

Other than the above that more affects replayability than anything else, I think you did a really great job on this game, it's fun to play and I like the mechanics a lot.

One more bug I noticed is:

  • One time, the dialogue came up that I survived, but there was one enemy left, and I couldn't move since the game thought I already won that day. The enemy was still damaging me during the dialogue. Then, it showed the game over screen for being killed by the enemy.

Wow! Thanks for the huge feedback, so glad you enjoyed the game.

I've found some bugs that I intend to fix after the game jam ends, but the one you mentioned is a first time to me.

Thanks a lot!

Really cool game! The art and UI were great, and i found really useful the way mechanics were introduced  with the tutorial. The only thing is that is kind of hard to resist multiple rounds since you cant heal yourself. Anyway, i really enjoyed the game, Good job!

Developer

Thanks for the compliments!

The trick is to get barrils, this way you become strong really fast and it gets easier, maybe after the jam ends I work out a healing mechanic, thanks!

The game is cool , I like that it is a bit on the harder side and it fits the theme pretty well. Good job on this!

Really fun game, but very punishing as there isn't a way to replenish health

Developer

The game is sort of a rogue like so this is a design decision, you can upgrade your resistance, which, in essence is replenishing some life.

The game is super fun and the upgrades very balanced. I just wish there was some way to renplenish your health.
