How does your game fit the theme?
It's loosely based on the old Let's Make a Deal "What's behind door number 3" style game. Each door leads to different power ups and challenges.

Did you write all the code and made all the assets from scratch?
Yes except the pixel font.

Really cool game! I liked the rogue-like aspects, having to choose what power ups to take moving forward. I think, like you already mentioned, bringing in more enemy types or variety in general would be a cool next step. But the fact that you made everything besides the font yourself in such a short time is just impressive! I think the game is really solid and a good base for further development! Great work :)

Would be cool if you'd also check out our game :)

Nice game it works pretty well.

Here is my feedback

  • Sound effects would be nice
  • It was not really clear when the player or enemy got hit (sound effects would already help with that :) )
  • I always like to see other Godot projects (did you use Godot 3 or 4?)
  • The sprites are nice and cohesive
  • The difficulty was not too easy but also not infeasible :D
  • It felt like the upgrades of each room were quite repetitive (or I was just unlucky and always good bullet speed :D)

Overall a pretty good entry to the jam and also happy for the family of 5 that they finally have something to eat :D

I appreciate it! In order:

  •  By the end I was definitely just focused on getting something working out the door that I had to scrap sound and extra animations (even if it would have been a simple color swap or something for damage).
  • I used Godot 4! :)
  • They were the first ones I ever made. Aseprite was thankfully on sale and it simplified the process a bit thankfully lol.  But thank you! I tried my best (in the small amount of time I gave myself to make them, anyway).
  • I'm glad to hear it wasn't impossible. I kind of added difficulty scaling to each room last minute without a lot of playtesting (and then I gave the player a lot of health because it was *too* hard, originally it was only 20 max HP, but there were only like 3 dudes in a room!)
  • There's unfortunately only a handful of upgrades that I had time to make, but they're all completely random which ones show up, so it was just RNG :D

And I really appreciate the feedback. Though I hope they don't get TOO comfortable. I'm hoping to only have enough spaghetti for 3 next time :p

Love the idea! Very fun game!

Congratulations on your first game, and fist game jam! Hope to see more of you in the future :)

Developer

Thank you for the compliments and encouragement! I've had too much fun and dopamine injected into my brain to not do it again (though maybe I'll try to get more sleep next time 😅)

Such a fun game to play! The writing, albeit short, was also quite funny. The gameplay was really enjoyable and clear, as in it was clear from the very beginning what you were supposed to do. Perhaps something that I find would be useful is getting some sort of visual feedback when the enemies get hit, like the enemies sprites becoming brighter for a moment. I struggled particularly with the boss, as I didn’t know if I was hitting him because I was too focus on dodging his bullets. Anyway, it’s just a small thing that given more time you probably would have added!

If you were using keyboard to shoot, I wasn't able to get that working before the the deadline. You can aim with the mouse and shoot with click. Thank you for the compliment though :)

A fun and charming game! It took me two runs to beat the boss but I got him eventually >:) Great job!

Also the joke review at the beginning made me laugh ha ha great writing.

Appreciate it! Congrats on beating him! I've been struggling to get him myself, but glad to know it's not suddenly impossible :p
