How does your game fit the theme?
Carolines Basement uses the theme "dive deeper" as a exploration to dive deeper into hoarders and how people become them from their life experiences. In this game you are tasked with cleaning a carolines basement and you may infer how Caroline started hoarding

Did you write all the code and made all the assets from scratch?
Everything is made from scratch, however the sound effects have been made before the jam and repurposed

This game was both fun and relaxing to play, and the art is fantastic!

Simple and fun little puzzle with nice art style. Perfect game for OCD people)

LandonZX said it best imo. Some things you could polish if you choose to make continue developing this are: animations, especifically after the dolls (I didn't know where the dolls went at first) and more concise text. I would also love to see some more creative ways to use the mechanics! I think you have a cool mechanic and some amazing art, and with more rooms you could explore a lot of different ways to use them. Maybe having to click and drag a telescope to find a specific constellation?

Cleaning feels so clean! (See what I did there (; )

Things I enjoyed ✔️

  1. The sprite work is fantastic!
  2. Gameplay felt intuitive!
  3. I love the gameplay so much! You did a great job mastering the mechanics!

Things I would like to possibly see with your title. 🤷‍♂️

  1. Honestly you should add more rooms! Make this game a cleaning simulator in a way, because it feels so nice to clean out the rooms!

Overall 📓

You did fantastic on this game! You should be very proud of yourself, because this is truly a one of a kind experience!

Great idea with the digging into piles thing.  As someone with a messy workspace its very relatable!

I would have wished there was more gameplay and levels like the whole house to clean! and the lore a little bit more thrown around the place.

Graphics were AMAZING loved it.

Audio could have used more diversity and music that stands out more.

Over all a GREAT first game jam game and I hope you and your team continue to work on games :)

Yeah lots of gameplay in a game jam seems to be hard to do, if we work on it after jam we'll add more content for sure. Audio at least sound effects definitely can be worked on if we ever plan on a full release. Thanks for playing!

Ewww.... Heart Breaking.... You made me sad.

An interesting take on the theme! The artwork was incredible and also loved the coziness of the music, really therapuetic in a way ngl. Wished it was a bit longer, but seeing as this is your first game jam, great job!

Developer

Yeah we wanted to do something with the theme besides like the ocean or cave stuff to make it unique so im glad it turned out fine. I think if we continue this game and have more rooms you have to clean out it'd help the length, so for now its more of a proof of concept. Thank you for playing!

This game was so therapeutic to play I really loved it <3 Seeing as this is your first game jam, that's wild - especially as everything is made from scratch.  My only recommendation is to put fewer books, there were many to throw away. Loved it though. Followed!:)

Developer(+1)

I'm happy you enjoyed it, we realized after we finished the project that the books became tedious but now we know if we ever want to continue it, definitely felt like needless content there. Thanks for playing!

Honestly great game especially since its your first jam. The little mini games for things like dolls and vhs were really nice. The art was the best point though it was really good and gave a really good aesthetic well done. Idk if i infered wrong but the story seemed really sad

Developer

You inferred right, it is a sad story. Thanks for playing!

Sweet little game. The art was pretty and the goal was clear :)

I messed up and dragged the dolls out instead of in, got it out of screen and got stuck xd

Apart from that, I liked the interpretation of the theme and you did great with making small interactions with the different items. Paired with the kinda sad music and cleaning, it made me think of my old childhood stuff lying around. Idk, the vibe just stuck out to me! Great job!

Developer

Thanks I'm glad you enjoyed it!

Very neat little game! I liked the graphics and even some of the narrative pieces such as the atmosphere and the little details you can find about Caroline were cool. It was kind of a hassle opening the to-do menu over and over to make sure what to find but that's just a personal thing. I like it!

Thanks for playing :)
