Hands down my favorite game from this jam. The visuals are stunning with great controls and sound. The few issues i have are minor like the camera was a bit off and there are a few visual issues, but thats it. Amazing game.

I really enjoyed this, lovely progression through the game and felt like a positive experience to have played it.
If I had to give a criticism it would be the shakiness of the camera being a bit uncomfortable, but otherwise this was really great.

Wow! Great game!

My non-complaint complaint is that I couldn’t play it in the browser / on my mac even through it had the mac symbol on the download. Had to switch to Windows machine.

Beautiful retro art. I love it!

I would love to see it developed further with more variety and a full game.

Great job!

Developer

Thank you for your kind words! I created a standalone build in unity which had all three symbols next to it but maybe I made some mistakes. I am happy you enjoyed the game!

For future reference, when you build with Unity, you need to select the target platform when you select the standalone option. If you want it to run on all 3 desktops, you will have to build it 3 times.

Looking forward to what you make next :)

Absolutely wonderful game, the animation of walking you did with just 8x8 is astounding and the sense of foreboding you gave to your world with just greyscale pixels is inspired.

The issues I have are:

  • There's some issue with the camera, I feel like it's making the game not 60fps? There's an issue with it somewhere.
  • An extra ability would have been good to add a bit more to the ending mountain stage as it's just climbing.

Other than that, sublime game.

I agree thank you so much! I think the issue with the camera can be traced back to the low resolution and the last level could have used some more variety at the climb. I am happy that a lot of people managed to finish the game as I had troubles with difficulty in the past.

I like the game. I the camera movement sometimes made me a little dizzy. Very nice and immersive. I also like the music. It was a little hard to control using only the left hand, It would have been nice to remap the left shift to the spacebar or the mouse click. (But that's just a personal preference). In the first level a little more contrast between what's step-able and what is not would also had been nice.

Developer

Thank your for your feedback I ran out of time and wasn't able to implement remappable controls but you are right. Glad you enjoyed it anyways.

Very cool atmosphere. I was kind of let down by the lack of emergent gameplay with the upgrades. This causes the platforming to feel extremely same-y, especially for people familiar with the genre and have used these same upgrades before. This makes the long climb at the end feel tedious. Adding more wide gaps and adding a speed boost at the end of the slide that you could use to launch yourself could lead to some more engaging gameplay and prompt the player to use the leaf/boot upgrades outside of the few obstacles specific to them.

Developer

The idea with the speed boost at the end of a slide is super interesting and making it more useful. I learned that level design is really tough and consumes a lot of time but I am glad that the game is at least  beatable.  Thank you for your kind feedback.

This would be a very fitting entry for metroid vania month 😋

Amazing game, especially given the time frame! The graphics are beyond beatiful, I personally like the music and it's fitting to the games presentation.

Again, this game is suberly well made, which is why I would like to give some picky feedback. With a few tweeks you can easily extend this into something amazing!

  • Movement could be snappier. With pixel games like this, movement is usually "snappy", it seems like you are using physics-based movement, so the character is "sliding" a bit. Also, personally I feel like the gravity value is too high. But that needs to be in sync with the rest of the game of course.
  • Particles on respawn go crazy, they should calm down a bit
  • Writing can be improved

All the best!

Developer

I agree in retrospect I wonder why I implemented physics based movement in a game with a resolution of 320x180 pixels and yes the particles go nuts on a checkpoint which makes it hard to see the player when they respawn or collect the checkpoint. Thank you for pointing it out and your kind feedback!

omg, the game is so good! the only tiny detail that i would like to mention is that the movement curves make me feel like i'm on ice. I really hope you win the jam because your game is amazing!

Thank you so much!

Would like to try but I'm not on Windows :(

Developer

Hey I didn't realize that I only selected windows as a platform. I made a standalone build in Unity which means you can play the game on macOS, Windows and Linux. I hope it works for you!

Can't execute the downloaded version... how should I start it?

Linux

I actually used fedora and popOs for some time so maybe this will help you out you can install wine and open the terminal  in the folder with the  .exe file and type "wine applicationName.exe" to run windows software on linux.
