Well this is the first online Co-op game I've seen in the jam, and I think the first I've played from a jam. Which was a nice change of pace. The gameplay was interesting and the mechanics left a lot of room for experimenting, mostly. Though there were a few QoL things I would personally recommend adding. A big one would be an easier way to see your friend across the river to have an idea what they're doing. That or more distinct sounds for what they're doing, since currently they're pretty similar. Though some finer points:
Hey, thanks for the feedback. And thanks for playing it on stream. It was great watching someone play the game all the way to the end. For anyone else who would like to watch the vod and see some gameplay, check it out here https://www.twitch.tv/videos/902803360?t=3h19m45s
I really want to try this but I have no one to play with :( but the art and the fact you made a multiplayer in such a small amount of time is freaking cool. Like how did you even test this did you have to build it every time? that would be a nightmare
Yeah, sorry about that. An unfortunate part of making a multiplayer game. You could try asking in the BlackthornProd Discord server if anyone wants to join you in a playtest.
As for how I made it, it's actually made in javascript using the Phaser engine and a library called PeerJS for the networking. I didn't need to build anything since javascript is an interpreted language, not a compiled language. For testing, I just changed it to boot directly into the game and most of the testing could be done with a single person. If I needed to test something related to multiplayer, I'd just boot to the menu instead of the game and open a second browser to join myself.
Its amazing you can make a multi player game in a week!!! that art is amazing and it looks fun but sadly since its co-op i cant play it huhu. but i will rate it anyway .
Sorry about not being able to play it. If you still want to playtest it, you could try asking people in the BlackthornProd Discord if they'd like to join you.
Nice game and Nice concept and idea.
For future improvement:
If players some how could see each other maybe it would have been better like a small camera looking over players and shows that to the other player like a minimap but centered on your partner rather than your self
Thanks! I had considered that idea myself and would have probably included it if there had been more time. Thanks for the feedback!
Nice game, I like the way you took the theme!
This game is awersome, I managed to finnish it, the fact that you got an online multiplayer game to work in 7 days its amazing.
This is the best game i have ever played but …
I did not play the game because no one was online
but if the multiplayer system work (which is)
its the best game
it would be hard to make isn't it?
overall 5 stars!!!:)
Sorry you didn't get to play. If you still want to try it, you could perhaps try posting in the BlackthornProd Discord server to see if anyone wants to join you.
