THE GOOD PARTS

The game is entertaining and I feel like it has nice humor (particularly when the AI starts getting mad and insulting you for beating it). In general terms, it’s a decent jam entry although the game is not exactly complicated and you can exploit some of the physics so that the AI kills itself with your bullets; all forgivable things considering the amount of time we have to actually develop these games.

I found a bug during my playthrough where for some reason the AI and the player disappeared from the map and the game got stuck but it’s not a major deal all things considered.

The player and the AI are gone

THE BAD PARTS

The following points are easily excusable to time/skills so don’t take them too personally because I understand that the lack of polish might be a consequence of this being a jam entry.

  • I think the bullet physics should have been given a little bit more attention; for example, making the player bullets disappear after some time or after they hit something because as it is right now you can spam your bullets which creates a wall that prevents both the enemy bullets AND the AI from passing through, plus, the bullets hurt the AI in this state so it’s easy to create a death wall for it rendering the map layout trivial as you rarely move away from the center of the screen.

  • I don’t think it was a nice idea to reset the whole game if you get hit once [I’ve seen other people mention it and I agree]. Maybe putting some checkpoints after certain encounters would make it less punishing if you get hit and would allow more players to reach the end of your jam entry (which is not a minor thing).

  • There should be an indicator of when the duel starts because there’s a level where the AI says “f*** you” that stays stuck at the beginning for a good while, giving the impression that the game crashed but then suddenly the AI goes noclip,firerate99999999999,godmode on you and you barely have any chance to respond to the attack; I see this point as the big barrier of this game and where most people will quit (particularly because you get taken to the beginning when you get hit… And believe me, you WILL get hit!)

CONCLUSION

This game is compact, immediate, funny, and FUN. With some polish here and there, some more camera shakes sprinkled around certain interactions and, in general, more development time you would have something that feels like Gun Blood (it’s a fun flash game, look it up).

A decent jam entry! Good job!

Wow, that's a very detailed reply! First of all i want to make clear that there's no ending and the last rewind is impossible(probably) and the wacky bullet physics is part of the gameplay and strategies, and we worked on the game mainly for the last couple of days of the jam so we didn't have time to fix all of the bugs. Overall the game was just a little project, and thanks for playing it!

Great use of the loop and hilarious to be playing against a cheating AI.

Like Asdonaur said, it's a bit harsh to start over again for just one hit. Maybe if the animation of Ctl+Alr+Redo was a little faster, it will give more agility to the game play feel.

Also, it has some sort of bug where the players doesn't spawn at the start of the level, and you have to reload the game again.

The chat box where the AI talks and produces the cheats is so much fun haha

The concept is overall very nice! Congrats!

Thanks A lot for you feedback!

I do agree somewhat with this feedback, however the aim of the experience is that there is no 'win' state, and no matter how many times you shoot they A.I., they just need to shoot you once.

Also the rendering bug was an issue with the web build. I thought we fixed it with changing how layering worked, but I guess the bug sneaked back in under a different form.

Very fun idea!

I have nothing more to say, maybe is a bit harsh to make the player play everything again for one mistake, but I guess that's the point of the game.

Good job!

Very interesting game. In the first iterations the AI was fairly predictable but it would be foolish to think you can employ the same strategy every time. Did you use a reinforcement learning algorithm for the AI?

Also there is a delicious irony for the story of the game: the AI claims to be all powerful but can only gain an advantage through powerups and debuffing the opponent.

Funnily enough my original idea was to use ML-Agents to actually have the AI be good, but decided for a humor based approach. The AI was meant to be predictable to make the first few levels easy and fast, to get to where they cheat as quick as possibly, while reinforcing the idea that the AI genuinely sucks and needs to rely on cheating in order to win.

Shooting bullets feels super good! I do have to admit that the AI got me a few times... In my defence, it keeps cheating when I do manage to shoot it.

Seriously tho, very cool game!

absolutely great game idea!! I love it, but something seems too hard for me XD

Developer

Yeah thats because the A.I. is very good :)
