How does your game represent Mode?
H Y B R I D is a First-Person Shooter that combines the traditional HARDMODE and EASYMODE difficulty trope into a single unique game mechanic. This game gives you the ability to switch between HARDMODE and EASYMODE at will. HARDMODE increases your player's power, but also inhabits horrifying creatures, while EASYMODE drains your power, but is also the only way to get your health back. Both modes are equally punishing and essential to survive this horror FPS!

The presentation is top notch here, definitely a lot of style and attention to detail and a self contained narrative that utilizes all its concepts really well, like a short story or film. I am really into style choices that change the feel just by the way you alter the expected, like tilting the hand on the gun, or snapping in the modes. Great and interesting setting, and it feels really complete. Incredible work! >:3
This was amazing!!!! You've earned yourself a fan and an eager future collaborator, should I be so lucky. The core mechanic's a very clever iteration on the theme, even if I quibble with the labels (in no video game is easy mode a hugbox pocket dimension that constantly heals you, likewise in only very few is it completely impossible to heal in hard mode). I'm impressed with how well it managed to tell a complete if rudimentary story within these time constraints. I really dig the aesthetics, everything oozes style, from the sideways slant grip on the gun to the tonal non-speech vocalizations of the final antagonist.
I did run into what I think was a bug, which was that when I first encountered the boss, he spawned like a hundred minions that merked me instantly. I hit continue and not only were there no minions on the second try, but the boss didn't seem able to attack me and died in relatively few hits. Both times I was "stuck" in Hardmode, which I think was intended. Also, during the final cutscene it zooms out to reveal that you're just arms and have no body? But for all I know that's exactly what the dev intended.
Add in a few more guns and more levels and you've got the basis for a really cool FPS here.
I felt very sad when I realized that the hideous monsters I was slaying in one branch of reality were adorable harmless animals in the other.
Thanks so much for playing my game, I'm so flattered!
This game is nuts. It's one of the first entries I played, right before the submissions opened. Just replayed it and I appreciate it even more. Brilliant concept and a great interpretation of the mode theme. Switching between the happy healing froggies and the deranged demons is an insane experience. Love the care that went into the aesthetic and art choices. Really really great entry, well done!
Thank you i'm so happy you enjoyed it!
wow, this game deserves way more reviews. the shooting and visual effects are immaculate. the cutscenes and slight world building/lore are very impressive given the time restraints, and I love the idea for the game. my only critique is that I think there should be more of a restriction on how long you can stay or go into easy mode.
Thanks for your comment biznut! <3
The presentation is incredible! The visuals and sounds are really satisfying. My only real complaint is that there's an issue with how mouse input is handled and I was getting really jittery movement when looking around. Overall, amazing job!
Thanks for your comment! I'm glad you were able to enjoy it despite the mouse input bug you were having. I made a patched version of the game that fixes this issue if you are interested! You can play it here: https://arisdead.itch.io/hybrid-fixed
the shooting is very satisfying and feels impactful. i like killing the monsters. aesthetic is great. awesome job especially for a solo developper.
Very fascinating idea! Shooting felt punchy and creatures were horrific and cute. I spent most of my time in easy mode waiting to heal up, so I think the healing could be alot faster when damage boost is zero. Also some of the enemies like butterflies were a bit hard to see at times. Would love to know more about this interesting world. Great entry for the jam!
That's a really interesting concept. It was funny to be in hardmode trying to defeat the scary enemies, then switch to easy mode and seeing them be cute and healing me. I didn't feel much pull to really get out of easymode quickly though even if it meant less damage. Unfortunately I'm not sure if I ran into a bug, since after the 3rd or 4th room it never let me leave even after I defeated all of the enemies.
Very creative and feels polished, great work
Wholesome and metal, great mode switch for vibe switch and mechanic switch. BIGMODE frog is a nice guy. Good game!
It looks very cool but the camera shake is extreme and there seems to be an issue with the mouse input for me that makes it uncontrollable regardless of the sensitivity.
Oh interesting, is that in the browser version or did you download it?
Both unfortunately :(
huh weird, well thanks for trying!
Hey Wayne!
I think I may have fixed that bug, would you mind trying the patched version and letting me know if it works?
