Jam Judge

Hey there! We did a high level review of your entry this weekend and would like you to see it on our channel. You can find the exact time to skip to in the description:

The writing was fairly interesting at first, but does get a bit weird later on. I felt the pacing was a bit slow with all the "..." pauses in the dialogue along with the slow movement speed.

I thought a lot of the cutscenes were quite well put together with good use of the animation effects. Playing music with the RTP sound effects were surprising! (Especially the end credits playing along with the BGM)

Overall, quite a good presentation for a first project ever!

Hello! So, I solved the problem by simply making a transparent image and putting in the recreated folder (the doodads folder is simply non existent). So, I could play the game, and I am sad to say: this is the first (and probably not only) game that I can't finish. It's probably I'm missing something and if that's so, I'll be glad to finish it. I see you posted a link to a patch, but it only leads to an error 404.

So, back to review:

- Interesting setup, I kind of like it, it's intriguing.

- There is a problem with your mapping at times. Maybe it is something you "rectified" with your doodads, but considering the only doodad there is is an empty picture, I cannot tell.

- During a battle, you can waste your key. Why isn't this classified as a key item? Or why isn't it just unusable?

- Another mapping problem: some paths lead to nowhere. Literally. Keep in mind, when you're mapping, you're giving indirect messages to the player. When you carve a path, I think I can go there. When you put a carpet in a house, near a wall, I know it leads to a door. Et cetera. Here the paths just seem to have been put there for the sake of being there, not to inform the player of an useful information. It's even worse, because paths in your game does lead to another map, making these "paths" not only misleading, but also deceptive.

- The character moves slowly. Even when running. This is kind of a double-edged sword and can frustrate a lot of players, so be careful with that. Players like to be able to do their stuff quickly.

- And now, the reason why I don't feel like I can finish the game. It softlocks. At one point in the game, you must find a clover for a fairy in order to continue. I've gone to the patch of grass that fits the most the description given by the game, but no way to drop clovers. Eventually, I end up looking around and find a way to spawn three magic circles in the grass, a little cutscene plays... and I'm stuck. I can't do anything. I waited, but the situation doesn't change and I'm forced to restart the game. This keeps happening every time and I think this is something I am required to do in order to move on.

Also, why is this dog preparing a satanic ritual?

With that said, I like what I saw, I eagerly wait for a patch that will allow me to proceed through the game and maybe finish it.

Best regards! Good luck for the jam! ^^

Hello Door_Knob, here is the judge Drag :). I have the same issue, missing asset. And your link doesn't lead anywhere. I'll wait to play your games and retry later, if you can provide a fix.

I dowloaded and played it through the beginning. Picked a guy and entered the drifty game jam door. The other was locked:(

Game crashes with:

Failed To Load: img.doodads/plants/trees/tree C.png

Re-upload after the judging and I would love to play and give feedback. Drifty and Tea mightbe able to sort out a way to play however so fingers crossed!

Note: good job on the look and feel of the character select scene. don't even know how to do one myself yet :)
