Nice plat-former, good idea for the theme.

I love the Mario like controls (and design) of the player character, very fun! I also love the level design and how you can find subtle ways to conserve jumps (e.g. using the lifts to get you over a bump). The timing mechanic of the bomb blocks was also very engaging as it forced me to think quick. I'd love to see more levels where all the different components interact!

As for critiques: controls. That's my only critique. The cluster of [z],[x], and [space] got really confusing and frustrating when any kind of time pressure (the bomb blocks) was applied. I've noticed this problem with many other games that use this control scheme, it's the fact that no one can agree on what should be jump and what should be shoot. I've seen space and shoot, x as jump; z as shoot, x as jump; x as shoot, space as jump. There's so many ways to approach this control scheme and every one does it differently--it's just soup in my brain. I would propose the following: Arrow keys for LR movement and JUMP, SHIFT for sprint and Z for shoot. That way you have tactile differences between the shoot and sprint key and jump fits in with the other movement controls.

Overall, when I wasn't frustrated at the controls, it's an excellent platforming experience. Unique level designs and fun puzzles. Good luck with whatever you decide to do with the game!

Had a lot of fun playing this.

Love how you keep adding new interesting mechanics for each level and makes for a nice puzzle / platformer hybrid.

Had to retrain myself to stop jumping unnecessarily :)

Nice game! Losing coins to jump is a cool idea. The character felt a little floaty and awkward to control at times. Nice game though!

Fun platformer, the mechanic and take on the theme makes you take a step back and think when navigating through the level. Props on the grading system, makes you want to redo a level and do better. The game also creates a nice chill vibe, great job!

Very nice take on theme, the game is pretty challenging yet fun. Visually speaking, were you inspired by Mario at all? The player kinda looks similar to his sprite from SMB1.

Thanks for the comment! Glad you liked the game. And yeah, between Mario Wonder and some SMB1 mods I've been playing, I've been on a bit of a Mario kick lately, so the sprite was definitely inspired by Mario.

Good game. I love your art style and color palette. No jump mechanic makes users very challenging.

Really good submission! I like the art. It's simple but in a good way. The visuals have a clean yet charming look and it's very readable. I also like your take on the theme. I've never played a platformer so methodically before. You really got me to think about every move.

Interesting take on the good ole energy concept! Responsive controls, a banger of a soundtrack choice! (Even though from what I understood, not made by you? But it definitely adds to the aesthetics). Has a coyote jump. Level 3 had a really rough segment in my opinion with the coins directly above the spikes, but a very neat entry overall!

Glad you liked it! Yeah, the songs are public domain music I got from OpenGameArt.org.  It's a series of tracks called "Electronic" created by Alex McCulloch and the game cycles through the tracks at random.

Fun fact about that section of Level 3;  the coins were originally one tile above the spikes instead of two tiles, but I wasn't able to get them consistently without getting hurt, so I moved them up a tile. Seems like that section might still be pretty difficult, though.

Thanks for the feedback!

Really good take on a traditional platformer! Defiantly seems like some thought went into it, I got through a few stages thinking I did pretty good only to find out I scored a C ranking and it took a few retries to find all of the optimizations. Very well done overall.
