Screwby rated COVEN - Summer 2024 Demo

Screwby rated a game 5 years ago
A downloadable game.

Alright, played it through twice, now, and I thought I'd leave my feedback. I'm a big fan of retrofps games and I play a LOT of them, and this aesthetic seemed right up my ally. That aesthetic, though, is not as present in the current demo. The textures, modeling, and layout of the actual levels is great, but I'm hoping that in future versions the enemies will meld a bit better with their surroundings. Right now they're way too clean, though judging by their real people faces I assume that they're just placeholders. Similarly, the animations were a big disappointment. I'm a big blood fan, and this game gives me some big blood vibes, so when I found the pitchfork I was stoked to pick it up. Obviously I was let down when it had the same animation as the sword and axe. Again, I assume the current animations are place holders, but I hope some extra care is given to their final version so they're more cohesive with the atmosphere. Maybe hold the axe high and bring it down hard into people, thrust vitals with the sword, and quick stabs that stick into people with the pitchfork? Just some ideas.

That might sound like a lot of negativity but those are the only real problems I have currently, which is impressive given the super early state of it. I thought it would be more helpful to provide some idea of what needed improvement and how you might go about it even if you already have an idea of what to work on and how. I know big creative projects like this are easy to get lost in and overwhelmed but it would be a shame to see this one sink away. I'd say this has as much potential as the HROT Demo did, and that ended up being one of my favorite FPS ever, and its only got a single episode out. Cheers and good luck.
