Drillimation Systems rated Misty Lake Survivors

A browser game made in HTML5.

This is a highly addictive, fast-paced horde survival game that successfully translates the classic Vampire Survivors formula into the beloved Touhou Project universe. Controlling fan-favorite characters like Reimu Hakurei, Marisa Kirisame, Cirno, and Daiyousei while dodging massive waves of enemies captures the intense, chaotic spirit of a danmaku title. The core gameplay loop is immediately engaging, delivering a satisfying casual dopamine rush as you level up, select upgrades, and watch the screen fill with projectiles.  For short gameplay sessions, it serves as a fantastic, action-packed distraction for any Touhou Project fan.

Despite its strong foundation, the game's identity as a raw indie prototype becomes evident through some noticeable technical and creative shortcuts. Most notably, the bizarre choice to swap out the franchise's iconic, mythical melodies for royalty-free stock music by Kevin MacLeod. While the tracks are excellent in their own right, the lack of authentic Touhou Project arrangements creates a bit of a tonal disconnect. Additionally, the game lacks a deeper meta-progression system or an overarching story mode, relying purely on the player's immediate visual reaction time and preexisting love for the characters to drive engagement.

Overall, the game lands squarely as a solid, middle-of-the-road proof of concept. A major caveat for players is that the browser version's save system is currently non-functional, meaning any gold you collect will be wiped as soon as you close the tab. Because of this, it is highly recommended to download the standalone Windows version directly to properly enjoy unlocking characters like Cirno and Daiyousei. It is a flawed but genuinely fun passion project that is well worth checking out for a quick, chaotic session.
