It Paints Me, as in, it TRULY 'pains' me down to the core... /love the play of words for the title whilst still serving purpose to the lore haha, props
I did not expect a short three-ending visual novel to be THIS heart wrenching... Usually, it takes finishing one ending onto the second ending to grieve my heart, but this game splendidly hit my gut even in the introduction during my first playthrough. Thus, naturally, I bawled my eyes out in every ending haha...
Coming from an artist myself, the play of words is remarkably splendid. It's not overused and cringe, but rather... woefully romantic...? Sam's troubles with painting Marie's features is also something many artists encounter in reality haha... So when the dialogue played, I instantly connect with the poor man. /I can't capture y/n's beauty reaction ahh
Another note is that, while Sam and Marie are in fact married—especially with how lovely Sam describes their romance numerous times despite his agony and pain—I see this game more as a "how great an individual is, such a pity he is ill to death" with a spice of angsty romance... which further slaps my emotions in a turmoil—mostly on despair and sorrow for the poor Sam who, had such a bright future ahead of him had he not been ill, and Marie who, upon achieving the third ending, turns out still loves Sam dearly up to the end.
The twist of "reality" is done marvelously—I truly thought Marie was leaving Sam due to his illness and was afraid of the now-battered-up man, but this completely shattered the moment I played from her POV.
These two poor souls just want to live happily together... eat breakfast on Sundays, enjoy each other's company as they go about their hobbies... gosh my babies...
/additional note... I absolutely LOVE the background music... it's so calming, melancholy, and... beautiful...? It truly captures the essence and atmosphere of the entire game with simple piano melody in repeat... Such a silent whisper of the empty house, yet a loud portrait to Sam's loneliness... Not to mention the crescendo in the third ending... Another point to my already-bawling-eyes haha...
