valkyrieofdawn rated Vigil

A downloadable game for Windows.

Normally I only take time to rate games that absolutely blew my mind, but I feel like this deserves a response.

Starting off, this game is massive, in terms of like storage required. It took a *long* time to both download and unpack, especially compared to most of the games on this website. That led me to believe that it was going to be equally long, with lots of content, so I was surprised by the shortness of it.

In addition, the gameplay was fairly straightforward and boring in my opinion. Walk around, go to houses, find the shadow, gather light orbs. I was expecting puzzles, or danger, or *something*, but the character didn't really ever do anything.

The story was decent, but it wasn't anything that new or interesting. Stories that revolve around "it is what you make of it" have one huge weakness; When there's clues towards one, and only one, possible answer. I made a conclusion about what happened almost entirely off of the sounds that played right before the ending credits. And if the conclusion I came to is the same one the devs had, then it isn't even the first time i've seen a story like this.

Ending on a positive note, the worlds were beautifully detailed and the graphics were phenomenal. I want whoever made them to never cut time or effort on visuals, because they were amazing.

In conclusion; good starting point, but lots of features were lacking. Despite the great graphics and nice music, the gameplay and story were lackluster at best. For the next game, you should spend more time testing the game and adding content that you think will be fun and engaging.

I hope this was useful.
