The Gardener and the Wild vines tackles a sort of Platforming style I’ve ever seen done before, Where you can create more platforms, and the faster you react the faster you can make them spawn. This means the movement is very fast-paced and fun, and you’re rewarded for your skill. The story is sweet and funny, while the art is well made and colorful. There are a couple downsides, Because when the platforms spawn there is a bit of RNG (As far as I can tell) This does mean sometimes you can just get unlucky and have some very ridiculous jumps. And the Game’s hazards increase quite a bit as you progress through the game, sometimes leaving you with limited options or warning to dodge. How they end up countering it is by leaving health restoration items very frequently, sometimes having 2-4 visible on screen at a time. I feel like with some more balance, they could have made the learning curve gentler, leaving less need for quite as many hearts, or embraced some essence of failure and allowed more than a single checkpoint per level on some particularly hard parts of the game. Regardless, the game was still fun to play, and the added replay value/Speedrun potential that challenge mode brings is a welcome sight.
