I am on a mixed opinion about this game. I enjoyed it, but it felt unfocused, and it was difficult to get into with the game constantly breaking the fourth wall. The story is based on several stories told by real people, grounded in personal experience. However, the game doesn’t do a great job of weaving these together, as instead of one flowing narrative, it pulls you out regularly to tell you how real the story was. This can be really cool, however I feel that the world itself needed to be more fleshed out. For example, we are told who the doctor was on this island, but yet they play no important part in any story. Your player character, Frigg, is brought onto the island to learn Carpentry, but the game refuses to let you do any carpentry, or even building maintenance. I feel like leaning more into the slice of life would make the reality of these stories hit more. That said, the minigames are fun, I did get invested in Frigg’s safety, and felt dread when dealing with the game’s antagonist. Still a good time, and full of whimsy.
