QUT Bachelor of Games and Interactive Design Blogpost – Week 2: Platformer Elevator Pitch

Platformer Elevator Pitch

So for the first project it’s going to be a platform game and it needs to have a plan or an idea of what game and how the mechanics going to be like.

My first platform game idea (could change from feedback and brainstorming ideas with friends/classmates)

Game Title: Grasp

Player’s role: (robot that loses its legs, unable to move basically)

Primary gameplay: player starts with a robot on the snow ground flat area with another old rusty robot on a campfire and tent telling you “You’ve fallen quite hard, your legs does not function anymore…” “the top of the skies(mountain) lies a paradise, there you can fix those legs…” “take this device… good luck”.

Player’s given a mechanical tool that has rope, use it to throw onto solid platform by pressing SPACE to throw, Hold ALT to distance the device (how far you want to throw the device) Remember to use the ARROW KEYS to aim where it lands. Press SPACE to activate its grasping power at the same time the rope will lift you up.

Genre: 2d platform, pixel style, inspired from Jump King/ Bread and Fred type of game.

Target audience: all age

Story: player starts with a robot on the snow ground flat area with another old rusty robot on a campfire and tent telling you “You’ve fallen quite hard, your legs does not function anymore…” “the top of the skies(mountain) lies a paradise, there you can fix those legs…” “take this device… good luck”.

Player must climb up to “paradise” by facing obstacles and challenges. Good luck…

DISCLAMER: I don’t know if I will implement this idea for next week or I will completely change it because after trying GDevelop I find out that programming the grappling hook(well something like that but not exact) is quite difficult. Either I will go through this and finally able to program it or I will change some ideas. Wish me luck :3
