How do I move the games to my desktop?

New user here. I bought the racial injustice bundle and I extracted Night in the woods and minit but when I move them to my desktop, I get an error message when trying to play them. I currently have to open the zip file with winrar and extract every time to play them. What am I doing wrong?

Open the zip file, and select “Extract All”, select a folder of your choice (possibly on your Desktop). Now every time you want to open the game, you can open the folder from your Desktop.

If you want to have the game’s icon on your Desktop, then you need to drag-n-drop the game’s executable using the right mouse click, from the game’s folder, to the desktop. Once you lift it, select “Create shortcut here”. Now every time you execute the shortcut, it will run the game from it’s folder.

In case you are curious, the reason for this is, when you run the executable, it is looking for it’s asset files on the same folder, so you can’t just move the executable around without the rest of the files. Shortcuts are basically “pointers” to a file, they do not contain any game data, just where the game’s executable can be found, where the rest of the asset files also reside. It’s not possible for most games to detect those files if they are still inside a zip archive.

I hope that’s what you were asking, if not let me know.

There is no extract all option. I was able to get the shortcut to my desktop but I want to add all the games in a games folder. When I tried that, a my pc screen pops up. I am used to the epic store games. I just download those and can put them in a games folder. So far, not so with these games.

Are you on windows? If you right click on the zip file, is there any option to extract the files?

Yes windows 10 and yes, there is an option to extract files. Clicking that takes me to the screen where it asks me where I want them to go. If I extract the whole zip file to my games folder, I get a lot of stuff but the minit exe file doesn't have create shortcut here just create shortcut. Clicking on that creates another file within the same games folder with the shortcut name. Dragging it to the desktop changes the logo. The icon keeps changing and even took on the axoim verge logo which is a game I have downloaded. I just bought an Acer Nitro 5 and want to download games to it. When I click on minit exe file or night in the woods exe, the game extracts and starts playing. If I try to move it to the desktop, the game won't open.

I really recommend you try using our desktop app, so you don’t have to worry about extracting things manually. It should be a relatively simple setup to get started: https://itch.io/app

Oh thank you for this. I didn't know it existed. I will try it out.

I can't put these games in my games folder correct? Always open the launcher to play them? My epic games are in my games folder but it's fine if I can only play these games from the official app.

You can specify an installation directory.

Okay. I will mess around with the app. Thanks everyone.
