If on a summer’s night a game designer...

If on a summer’s night a game designer… is an analogue (non-electronic) game design jam. Participants will be given an entire season to create a playable draft of an original game inspired by the works, the stories or the writing style of Italo Calvino.

The theme of the jam is “Italo Calvino”. This means you should create an original game inspired by the Italian writer, a game in which it is possible to breathe the air of Calvino’s books and tales. Of course it is not necessary to limit to the stories Calvino wrote. Creativity is encouraged; therefore you can also take cue from his writing style or his innovations in the literary field, in terms of story building or narrative deconstruction. Feel free to explore the theme in every possible way.

If on a summer’s night a game designer… will run during next summer, from June 20th to September 22th.

This is a really cool idea! I actually made a game like this a couple of years ago. It got picked for the Now Play This showcase. I'll try to find time to join this jam.

Thanks! I’ll read and play your game. I confess that the idea came from reading that book again, so I can’t wait to see what you produce for the jam!

I created my own game jam six days ago and it still hasn't appeared on the calender or on any list.

Help would be much appreciated.

First of all, please don't post in unrelated topics. Start your own.

Second, game jams have to be seen by an admin before they show up in listings, and this week things have been hectic. Normally I'd recommend contacting support, but right now they're swamped. Please advertise your jam through other channels until things calm down.
