When you switch from comments to a community, existing comments are hidden and become inaccessible, but they won't be deleted. If you ever switch back, they'll still be there. We hope to change that at some point so you can have both at the same time.
Hey, there actually is a way to convert your comments to a topic in your message board based community. You have to contact support to get it done though, since it’s a one way operation.
