Is it okay to run commissions here?

Apparently there's a forum here on itch.io. Neat.

I'm looking to start commissions to help people with game assets, but I'm having trouble finding a site that works with my bank information. Then I remembered, my bank info is already tied to itch.io! So is it within community guidelines to create a page specifically for commissions (I can't find a guidelines page, so a link to that would be cool, too ^^)?

I imagine the page is set up to give examples of my work, and then a donate button people can use to pay for the commission they want after contacting me for more information (ways to do so will be on the page).

If this is not possible, I would like some suggestions. Patreon does not appear to be suited to this type of work, and Square does not accept my bank information. I'm already familiar with itch.io's management, so if I could keep everything to here, that'd be great, but I'd understand if otherwise.

What’s the pricing of these commissions? If you’re doing $50+ things then it might not be appropriate. We are built for distributing digital goods, and our refund policies, infrastructure, and fraud prevention is designed for that. Selling one off things for a larger amount of money may not fit within that model for you. I see that you’re using direct payments with Stripe though. Much of the risk is placed directly on your own business account, so it’s less of a concern from us.

I guess my final answer is, you can try it out, but if we notice issues with how it’s being handled we may ask you to stop. Additionally, keep in mind we don’t have sections on our browse pages for stuff like this, so don’t expect to get any exposure from us on the main site. You would be responsible for marketing.

Hope that answers your question

Covering my own marketing is expected.

They would be less or at $50, but I understand your refund policies. If there is a problem, I am capable of handling that personally, and I'll solve it.

If there is an issue that effects itch.io, then yeah, I completely understand if something needs to be done about that. I'll try not to be a burden, though ^^;

With all that, I hope things work out!

If you're using your own stripe/paypal accounts anyway, I would think you could just build a little web page with a PayPal donate button or a link to a Stripe checkout page or something. Routing through Itch doesn't seem like it adds anything.

So funny story (not really) about PayPal: We're banned from it. Well, just my mother, anyway. We caught them stealing money from our account and were to going take action, but instead they just decided to ban her email and any subsequent emails and IPs she has tried to edit from. So she doesn't want us getting involved with them, which is understandable. What's more, I have personal messages of friends that used PayPal and were screwed over, so it's not just an us problem.

So, yeah, PayPal's a hard no for me.
