I'm starting to think that these "trans" games are just pandering for traffic.

Games with trans people dont bother me, but when I see one with a conflict centered about being  trans, or a character being trans for no apparent reason, I can't help but feel like it's some way to pander for (most likely) tumblr traffic. I mostly try to keep distance from tumblr, so I'm not sure about these things, but it's such a niche and complicated thing, I don't understand how they get so popular. I'd like to hear your opinions.

That is some interesting idea and certainly one worth of philosophical exploration, but there is a measure to anything, in particularly the propaganda of ideas or ideology - for example, the gender - where it starts to become simply pretentious. Pretentious, is bad.

Fictional characters don't need a reason to be trans any more than real people do. Just as cis people evoke their own experiences in what they create, so do trans people. If it suddenly looks there's a lot of trans fiction out there? Oops, guess there are a lot more trans people in the world than anyone thought. If it bothers you, well, hopefully our dev team will get around to implement tag exclusion soon. We know it's a priority. Promise.

Oh and by the way, Tumblr-bashing is just boring by now.

Once I talked to a guy, whose tactic aimed to make game developers think there are  more Linux users than there are - and therefore, that Linux is a profitable market - was to buy as many games as many times as he saw fit, therefore, as if pounding his wallet against the wall. In other terms, he thought he could perhaps hack or bribe the reality this way - the reality of big picture statistics. But in the end, I think it was just a heavy consumerist agenda.

It is unnecessarily true that a lot of "gender" themed games on itch mean there are a lot of "gender" people out there in the world. It means that "gender" people tend to be a lot more active on itch, than they are perhaps on other comparable platforms, as well as, that itch is popular among "gender" developers, for whatever the reason, which in turn could be interesting to discover "why" independently.

Ah yes, I forgot that if anything challenges the status quo simply by existing, it's an "agenda". No way it could the be fault of a fragile status quo that relies on utmost conformity from everyone to hold together.

As for why Itch.io would be popular among queer people? Perhaps because we strive to be an inclusive space (even if we're not always doing a great job). Never mind all the studies indicating that yes, there are in fact a lot more queer people out there than previously thought. And no, don't ask for a citation. Seriously, don't. People don't have to justify their existence to you by citing scientific studies. Or any other way.

I like that. But... how do you mean?

I guess that I should say something more to give it momentum.

See the OP. The idea that transgender characters need a reason to exist in fiction. That's the latest marginalization tactic from people who never question fiction with abusive characters. Sociopathic characters. Apologists of colonialism and slavery. Warmongers. It's apparently OK to normalize all those through countless works of fiction, but the moment someone tries to do the same for transgender people? That must be "pandering" to those "Tumblr people". Who are presumably some kind of scary creatures of the night, as opposed to decent human beings trying to remind others that not everyone is like them and that's both normal and good.

You sound kind of emotional. This is not a train that will get you far distance. I believe any reasonable human being should at least try to find an excuse for literally taking space in the great universe we live in, not because it is required, but because it is healthy. Nobody is going to persecute anyone for failing at answering that question, because we are all imperfect and nobody knows the endless margins of beginning or end, where do we come from. Each life is precious but that does not mean it should prohibit a man from taking action and simply living own life, because we belong not only to an ideal realm of our identities. There is truth to everything, as we are all shades of God. There is also metaphysical truth to homosexuality, but that does not mean I should consider this truth my part of excuse for literally living.

"find an excuse for literally taking space"

Are you listening to yourself? That's literally the first step towards concentration camps. Not in theory, but in history. There are people still alive who went through that. And guess which people tend to be taken away first. Yeah, I'm allowed to be "emotional" about literal fascism.

No offense, but I'm putting my foot down right here. If you want to continue this conversation, I'll hide the topic at the very least.

No need to. I think everyone is responsible for own existence in the first place and the change, must begin with oneself.

There's also this...

You... realize that's a troll who has no clue what it's really like.

Lets call it 'comedy' and hope the guy stops before he has to learn.
