Hey there!

This is my first question for Itch.io with the disclaimer that I really enjoy the Itch experience as a game developer - no complaints here. Also, I apologize if I am posting this question to the wrong place - first time caller.

I just posted my game page at https://gwlabarre.itch.io/happygrumps

The breadcrumbs at the bottom list my game as "Free", but my game is not free.

  • I have "Paid" selected in the settings with a price declared. It is okay that the price is currently hidden.
  • My game status is "In Development".
  • I am hoping to use this page as a "coming soon" page for my game that I am actively developing.

My dilemma here is that I want to have my page live in the "coming soon" sense, but I would hate to give anyone the wrong impression that my game is free - don't want to set any misconceptions or false expectations.

Does anyone know more about this? Does Itch.io have a way to fix this?

Thank you!

This seems like a bug that should be fixed. On the plus side, your game won't actually appear in the listing of free puzzle games either way since it isn't released yet. Personally, I had never noticed that there were breadcrumbs at the bottom of game pages, and I'd imagine most people looking for info about your game won't notice either. You could always write your planned price at the bottom of the description.

Since you have nothing to download - there is nothing to sell - that is why it is showing free.

Once you add a package and set the operating system, then the price will show up.

In addition, while you can have pages with nothing to sell on them, they won't show up in search results until there is a downloadable package on the page.

So if you're creating a page to show other people - that's cool - you can send them a link and they can use that to look at your page.

But if you're creating a page for people here to find when they're searching for games - they're not going to find it right now.

Roger - thanks for the replies!!
