What is Itch.io connection to pirate site ae-share.com?

We're trying to resolve an active copyright infringement problem by a website "ae-share". The reason we're requesting this information from itch, is the financial services provided to ae-share by itch.io when going through their paypal link.

This isn't the right place to ask. Most likely another pirate site vacuuming games from itch.io without permission, but you have to contact support for an official answer.

Already contacted itch.io support. Owner of pirate site is not answering as expected (and hiding behind privacy services).

Itch does not have a technical support message board. You are not answered by Itch staff here. What the community moderator was talking about: there are sites that scrape the Itch catalogue of games and try selling access to that.

You need to contact support and tell them the situation, best with any proofs how the Itch account is engaging in illegal activity. Judging by a quick glance, it might not be something the offending site has on it, but the site itself, and they use Itch to handle payments. Looks a bit fishy and might be an impostor site.

If it is an urgent matter, you might want to include the ticket number you got in any thread here, to increase chances the request does not get buried under all the other requests.

Itch is a download store. Anyone can open an account and sell things that can be downloaded. Typically games. But also comics and even pdf files that contain information.

There are two ways selling work. Either with collected by Itch and requested payouts, or direct-to-you. This would be the "connection" you wanted to know, I guess.

I am not sure what you meant with the paypal link. Did you follow a paypal link and land on the Itch page? It should be the other way round, as paypal is the main service provider transactions are handled. If there is only paypal offered as a payment option, than it should be the direct-to-you option.

already reached out to itch support, and awaiting their answer.

To answer your question. The website in question asks for paid subscription through paypal, or a banking card. When you go through the payment process, it is done under itch (screenshots above). The entire website is a ripoff of Envato Elements (a legit subscription based platform for digital work). They do not respond to or honor requests for removing illegal content.

Soooo ... they vacuumed off that envato site and maybe others, including your content.

You might want to include your ticket number here. While the mod is not staff, staff sometimes look here, and the mod might be able to expedite your ticket. Since this sounds like a tos violation and it involves payments and possible refunds, Itch might have an incentive to work on that asap.

Edit: yeah, linking to the socials of that envato site in a manner suggesting they are envato related, but not being envato kinda makes it rather clear, that they are scammers.

Yes, and it mostly hurts creators,  both financially and in terms of morale (why spend a week creating something only to be ripped off the following morning). This is a case of flagrant and systematic abuse, that relies on legal businesses (such as itch) to obfuscate, and cover up illegal operations, and it's an incredibly bad look for any company engaged in hosting, facilitating, or providing financial services to those responsible. We've also reached out to a number of other agencies (domain and hosting providers) to bring this matter to an end.

Still awaiting  itch response. Ticket number: 292374
