How to release game?

Hi! I just realized that my rhythm game published a few months ago has only a few hundred views and very few downloads. This may be because few were able to find my game page.

I have some questions:

  1. How can I make the game popular without using any type of monetization
  2. How to attract people who are interested in the type of game I'm making?
  3. How can I gain followers who subscribe to my game publications?

1. The game should be relevant cause itch io is based on searchs and tops (how I can understand). use tags and good text. Of course if there are only 100 people a day who interested in these kind of games, you just CANT gain more than 100 views. Opposite - if your hashtag or game is popular you more likely to gain a lot of views. 

2. Good text + good tags + good cover image. And (if you want)  from other resources (youtube, pinterest, forums, social media and all the places your potencial client can be). 

3. People who interested will follow you.

1. By marketing the game on third-party websites like Reddit, and by being patient to let more people discover you, which will usually result in your list of followers building. Also, using accurate and relevant tags on the game page can also be pretty important.

2. That's a good question. One way is by having an active presence on itch forums and seeing who likes rhythm games, who doesn't. Possibly making some friends along the way as you participate in both related and unrelated discussions, etc.

3. If I'm understanding your question right, one way of gaining followers and interest, is by trying other people's games and leaving good feedback on them. I realize that not everyone is a game developer, but I feel there's no shortage of them on Itch, either. And I feel that sometimes, they'll return the favor - trying the games of other people who have tried their game and commented on it.
