Is there any reason to take pictures? As far as I'm aware, the only reason to do so is to eventually print out pictures and post them up somewhere.

Well, ingame I don't think there is currently a use for them other than being able to print them out and pin them onto something.
I haven't tried sending a picture with a Drive Box yet though, no idea if it can attach. Or sending one with an Item Box to see if there is any reaction via E-Mail or event.
some things used to only appear on video camera, not in-person, but one of them that I knew of was removed, and another can be seen normally- I've tried to not spoil myself much but I assume there's similar use for it where there "is nothing". I've personally used it when I feel something is off, and have been proven I'm not crazy when the specific situation was, in fact, not normal, even if the picture doesn't contain anything immediately telling.
