some things used to only appear on video camera, not in-person, but one of them that I knew of was removed, and another can be seen normally- I've tried to not spoil myself much but I assume there's similar use for it where there "is nothing". I've personally used it when I feel something is off, and have been proven I'm not crazy when the specific situation was, in fact, not normal, even if the picture doesn't contain anything immediately telling.
