add your custom res to >appdata>local>votv>assets>res.txt
its annoying but its not hard, thankfully

Apple's Boot Camp is free and you can use it to choose between running windows or macOS when restarting the PC (not sure if you still need to buy a windows 10 license but probably)
If you have a lot of games you'd like to play that don't have mac support, I'd highly recommend looking into it, considering its one of the few times apple has genuinely made something just to be helpful, for free
most likely the dev doesn't have a mac/know how to make it compatible for a mac, and it would likely increase the dev time maintaining multiple branches, so it might be a lost cause to wait for an official mac version unfortunately
You need a program called 7zip to decompress to the file. The dev compressed it with a program called 7zip to make it smaller and easier to upload and download, but you need to decompress it, so the dev also says at the top of the page that you need 7zip to open it, but you're not opening it with 7zip, you need to decompress it so you can open it without 7zip. 7zip is not the only program that does this and if you have winrar or a similar program that can open 7zip archives (winrar and 7zip both share each others compression and decompression algorithms so either works) than that works too, 7zip is just a free and public use archiving tool. When you have an archiving tool installed, there will be an option in the right click menu to extract (decompress) compressed files, and in that right click menu, you can choose to extract here (which will empty the contents into wherever the compressed folder is; so don't do extract here, like, ever, extract to (the name of the compressed file), which creates a copy of the compressed folder, but decompressed, and a bunch of silly options meant more for convenience of online workers that you can ignore. Just use extract to (folder name) and the folder it create will work fine as is, assuming your computer can actually run the game.
Did you extract it with 7zip or did you just download it and open it? 7zip allows you to open compressed stuff but this does not mean it works compressed, you must right click and select the 7zip option and "extract to (compressed folder name) to create a new, uncompressed and usable folder. If you did this but are experiencing an issue with a black screen or serious graphics issues and settings being stuck at 0, then go to the settings, games tab, and regenerate data.sav
any time I've had the issue, only continuing to play and exploring/doing other stuff seemed to fix the issue completely randomly :/
it even carries over between saves/into the tutorial
explore for a while, dig up some stuff, go fishing, there's stuff to do at least besides signals until stuff clicks back in and starts working again
you may try adding your exact monitor resolution to the res.txt file at roaming>local>votv>assets>res.txt, and entering fullscreen by hitting f11 if it's still not a graphics setting. If these don't work, you will have to settle for playing at a slightly smaller window than your native resolution in windowed mode instead of fullscreen, which shouldn't have any UI and cursor issues.
detector % is simply detecting the type of signal, its image, its quality and size; you must actually download the signal as a separate % by adjusting filter and polarity to near 100% accuracy (I believe it's multiplicative so 100% filter accuracy with 0% polarity accuracy is still 0% download speed, you need both), but both your detector status and download must finish to actually save the signal as the drives need the detector info too to tell you the type of signal it is with its telescope image.
Simply run the new game .exe and delete the old one's folder whenever you feel like it, it's pretty rare for accidentally starting the old version to ruin anything and it warns you before you load saves so don't stress too much about it.
As for where saves and customizable assets are store, search %appdata% in the windows search bar, which will take you to roaming- go BACK one layer of folders to the actual appdata folder that roaming is in, and go to local>votv and either saved>savegames to back up your saves or >assets to add whatever custom stuff you want- the folders here are labelled fairly straight forward. Use PNGs for picture assets, MP4s for videos, and MP3s for audio, and if you're even more advanced, you can put 3D blender files into the "meshes" folder for the Industrial Printer ingame.
supposedly if it's actually a broken file and can't be extracted, there's a mirror download somewhere that works? Someone else I talked to had this issue where it sounds like it's not extracted or extracted correctly but then they downloaded a second, larger file that worked?? Sounds like bullshit to me and maybe untrustworthy so I would just download 0.6.3 from 32 days ago, you won't miss out on much waiting for a newer update besides some minor fixes and very small things
winrar and 7zip let you open compressed archives but you SHOULD NOT RUN FILES OUT OF COMPRESSED ARCHIVES- this is a bonus function of archiving tools that is meant to just be a safe way to quickly view a compressed folder/archive. The function you are looking for is to right click the compressed folder you downloaded, and go down to 7zip, and select "extract to (folder name)", do NOT use "extract here" as that will dump all the compressed folder's contents into the directory the compressed folder is in, not a new folder; this isn't a huge issue for VotV but other compressed folders can easily "zip-bomb" your computer if you use extract here in the wrong places.
You may have to wipe all your votv files out of your local directory as they are probably corrupted by running a compressed program. If you don't know how to do this, type %appdata% into your microsoft search bar to go to roaming, go BACK one folder to the actual appdata folder (%appdata% takes you to the roaming folder in the appdata folder for some reason, not appdata), and then simply open the local folder, scroll down to the folder labelled "votv", and delete it. You should then be able to run the game as normal from the EXTRACTED folder.
Perhaps this will help you wrap your head around it.
You are trying to get the specific filter values on the correct polarity- the 6 knobs DO NOT set a hard value, the knobs change how quickly the value changes per second, from fine tuning to very coarse and fast tuning, left to right. The top 3 do the filter frequency, the bottom 3 do the polarity filter. You can also look away from the knobs while holding them to fiddle while you watch the numbers, if you're unaware, which is also damn near necessary if you want anything near 100% accuracy, as you need to slow the value change to zero as it hits 100%.
