How to advertise asset packs on social media?

I've been selling asset packs for a while now on itch.io, and I think one of my biggest hurdles is that no one knows my art exists unless they're looking for a specific asset and find my art in the search results.

I would like to use social media more effectively to become better known in the game dev community, but I'm not sure what works. Does anyone have any tips or know of an artist that successfully creates a following on a social media platform?

(Also, I refuse to use TikTok for obvious reasons)

Ahh, the bootstrapping problem. To get known you need to be known already. That goes especially for social media. Can't boost your tiktok from your youtube, if your youtube is unknown and vice versa.

You have over 400 followers on a social media like platform. Some people might think, it is you who could give tips ;-)

Maybe, get seen where people would look. Are there many people watching asset videos on tiktok?

You could do some showcases on youtube of games that use your assets though. But see above. Are there many people looking for that kind of stuff on yt? For assets my guess would be, no. For games, probably.

A while ago I did some YouTube Shorts where I talked about games that you could complete in under 30 minutes on itch.io.

Recently, I created a YouTube Short that highlights an asset pack I have available on itch.io

Here are the views comparing the gaming shorts vs. the asset short:

The shorts where I talked about games has a cute vtuber in the thumbnails. You will notice that my best performing short outdid the asset video by a wide margin.

To be honest, I think creating videos about games that feature my assets would likely be the best option, for a few reasons:

1. People could see the assets in action, instead of them just existing in a void

2. As the numbers illustrate, people who aren't game devs will be more interested in games (which anyone can play) than tools for games. Their viewership could boost my videos in the algorithm to reach more game devs

3. If game devs know I am likely to make a video about their game if they use my assets, they will be motivated to use atleast some of my art in their projects

Good thinking. But you are still below the magic 300 on youtube. (If they still use that magic number).

It is basically nothing in social media figures.

You might be able to engage some of your followers in some poll with a devlog or something like that. Itch has no poll ability, has it? But I saw devs do something like that, probably with external tools to collect a poll from the players interested enough to vote.

Some questions would be, where they would like to see your assets available. Or how they noticed your's. Stuff like that.

I can't recall the Youtuber but there was a decently popular game dev youtuber who gave a shout out to someone's asset pack because the asset pack creator gave the youtuber a free copy of it.
