Beginner is pretty broad, so you might have to look around at different engines to see what resonates with you. One of the easiest engines to use right now is Bitsy. If you're looking for something more advanced, I recommend Godot. It works in your browser, and lets you create simple games. If you want to get more advanced then I recommend taking a look at some of the engines here: https://itch.io/game-development/engines Some engines are focused on creating certain kinds of games.

I would recommend both pico8 and Game Maker Studio 2 for a beginner. The best thing to do is download them and run through their tutorials for a few hours each. You'll find loads of reference online for both. After getting the basics of each under your belt you'll know which one is right for you 8).

Are you talking about 3D games or 2D games? For 3D games I use Unity. I learned how to do it by watching YouTube videos, but it was a little hard. I reccomend watching a beginner tutorial about it then trying it out to see if you like it.
