Sketches are under appreciated as creative exercises that help you develop a unique art style, so feel free to post your silliest and roughest sketches here- I'll start.

(1 edit) (+2)

This one's from 2019.

It's a sketch I made on my phone of Untitled goose game. It's mostly traced. I can't remember if I traced fan art or if it was in game picture; I just needed to kill some time.

(+1)

this is neat, i love that game

(+6)

Oh, that’s a fun idea for a thread!

My art process is 100% line-less, so my sketches tend to look a lot more uhhh… polished(?) since they naturally have some degree of rendering in them. I made an effort to find a particularly rough page though, and remembered a good one from 2021:

I did all of these pretty quickly in a drawpile session, I was using photrefs ofc but they still have that rough vibe since I was working quickly with unfamiliar tools :D

(+1)

OHHHH SUCH PRETTY BIRDIESSS

(+2)

Also–biting the console until it breaks is always a top-tier strat ;)

(1 edit)

finally, an object show host who's also a gamer [: cube root is so silly

(+3)

Cool thread, I wanted to make one like this too! :D

Quick snake with ball-point pen.

(+1)

THIS IS SO FIRE!!!!!!

WOAH ITS OMEGA FLOWEY

(+2)

This one's related to game development.

This is a little level sketch I made back in 2020. The level's name was Maple Island. It needed to be symmetrical since the game was a last team standing style.

Here are the rough sketches:

And here is one of the screenshots within the game:

(+1)

this is SO sick i love the shading

(+3)

Rouxls Kaard, i like it

(+1)

is that binary on the right side ?

(+2)

Yup! Biology on the left, binary on the right.  Consumption goes both ways.

I call this piece "consumed consumer".

reminds me of this

(+4)

Been doing a lot of "chalkboard" style sketches and I'm pretty happy with this friendly orc guy

looks like a polite fella

For sure, Georgie looks like he’d be a good buddy. That chalkboard look is really neat, I should try that myself!

(+4)

Here’s one from earlier in the week, as I’ve began to recover more concretely from my wrist issues I’m finally able to mess around with my tablet again. The piece itself didn’t turn out so good, but I had fun with it and that’s what matters!

(+1)

idk man
all i see is a masterpiece

(+1)

That's a pretty wild style

My background is pixel art, so I’m still finding myself when it comes to digital painting. That’s where a lot of the hard-edged brushwork and solid colors come from, in a sense you could say it’s me leaning on my strengths :D

(+1)

fossil from BOTB (https://mintykiwi.itch.io/botbdemo) REAL??!?

(+3)

Tofu drift machine. I made this in early 2022 after watching initial D for the second time.

Déjà vu, I've just been in this place before!

(+1)

Higher on the street and I know it's my time to go

(2 edits) (+5)

Didn't plan on drawing a demon, sometimes they just show up.

(+2)

That’s how it goes sometimes! I like it when you start doodling a little and a piece just comes out on its own

OOMMEEGGAA FFLLOOWWEEYY

A sketch of 'Call me Kevin' that I made in 2019

Done in S-Note

Call me Kevin more like Bore Ragnarok
(+1)

Is that one of the guys on YouTube?

yep

Great! no make a mulpan sketch because i did partition already

(+5)

Well I thought I would post some of my sketches too, a lot of artist try to have "perfect" sketches, or try to not do mistakes when sketches are supposed to be rough. There's no true mistake, no shame to have either. On my case, I just began to draw again after some time of pause, so sketches are my bestfriend.

(+1)

These are great! I love the structures in the second two, even rough they still have a very strong sense of form.

(2 edits) (+1)

This is a great thread, there are a lot of cool sketches here.

Here is a rough sketch that I've made during a train ride this year. I was going for a robot rabbit with a gun, but it ended up looking more like weird a raccoon to me.

(+2)

The ears are the most defining feature of a rabbit. Maybe they are too abstract to recognize here. Any way it's nice loose sketch which helps to invite creativity.

I'm enjoying this thread too, it'd be cool it it was made sticky.

(+2)

Thanks for the feedback about the sketch!

I agree, it would be cool if this thread got pinned/a sticky, as it is a good opportunity for many artist's to share their sketches and get feedback.

(+1)

idk why, but she looks like undyne

(+5)

I'm making a puzzle where you have to bargain for funds in my game Human Upgrade Labs and I decided that I want to design a currency for that. It's called the infinibuck and here's a sketch I drew a few days ago:

Wow lookin good! Nice style and colour choice.

(+1)

Thanks. Hopefully I can finish it and not mess it up, haha

(1 edit) (+2)

Great sketch, there's so much to look at!

I love how this sketch feels like a mix between many styles that can be found on money (mostly bills/notes) and how it manages to give it's own twist.

I'm looking forward to seeing the other infinibuck bills!

(+1)

Glad you like it.

Sadly this is probably going to be the only infinibuck I draw. It's for a little minigame and strictly speaking I don't even need this artwork, it just seemed like a fun addition. When a final version takes days to draw, I will likely focus on other artwork, of which there is a lot to do.

(+4)

And I finished the Infinibuck! Like always it took way longer than expected but it was fun to design and to draw.

Let me know if this is strictly for sketches only and I will remove this one if it's out of place.

(+3)

I didn’t start the thread, but I think it’s ok if it’s the finished version of an earlier sketch post. Especially since folks were looking forward to it!

Thanks. I'll have that in mind and leave the finished version in the post then

Very rough sketch of a wandering rat man.

The sketch started with just the bone and developed from there.

What i can see:

(+5)

Here is one of the sketch drawings for my first game's character!

I made my partition sketch! I hope you like it

16 bit fox made in pixel studio

(+3)

I guess these would fit in here. These are some initial planning sketches for a (not game-related) commission I’ve started working on this week:

The final piece will be pixel art, but it certainly faster to lay things out with my tablet. I’ll probably keep using this hybrid approach in future pieces as well.

(+1)

I meant to post the hires version of the 2nd as well, but I guess I clicked the wrong file! I guess you can use that to see what resolution the final version will be at :D

you can edit your post and add the picture again.

(+3)

Pixel Arthur Morgan.

I challenged myself to make Arthur within an hour using the cover art as reference.

Because of that, there are some oversights.

At first glance it looks alright but if you look closely, you might start to see some errors made.

Some sketches I made :)

(+2)

Nice! That cupcake looks tasty :D

(+4)

Ended up doing them in a different style.

(+2)

Looks nice!

thank you!  :)
