We need a setting to select which color of the background image should be ignored entirely. One could compose multiple different images in one painting if given the option to ignore the background color. Thanks! I should RTFM more often. This was already in here.
P.S.
Also, it would be a nice option to select the next color to use. For example, imagine a black and white image, instead of black, maybe I want green, or light black, or etc etc etc. :)
Ah, yeah I never noticed that. Sometimes the color choices are awful, but would leave blank spots if left alone. If we could reassign the colors to something else in the palette and have the changes reflect on the preview drawing that would help alot. For example, if I got a drawing with just red, green, blue, and I want blue to change to orange, the preview will replace all the blue with orange... If I disable the blue, it will just disappear to be the same as the background color in the preview window. This would be very helpful for more accurate drawings in a small sign instead of a XXL picture.
All in all, it is pretty dope. Just needs some minor tweaking :D.
i dont seem to be able to find the manage pallete feature. also an option to convert the picture to rusts pallete would be handy so we can see what colours will be used in the painting and what it will sort of look like,i have not had any problems with the app apart from a bit of a crash when selecting backround colours

Been fiddling with this for the past hour or so. Pretty impressive stuff. A couple things i noticed:
In the drawing I just did (which was a heavily graphical image of a persons face - don't know if that makes any difference?) It was just drawing every line 3 or 4 times. Maybe this is something to do with resolution or because i was drawing on a standard wooden sign instead of a large picture frame but completion time would have been a third if it didn't have to do this.
I also found that sometimes hitting f12 is not very responsive, you have to bash it a few times to get it to react, not a huge issue though.
Only other thing i noticed is that it quite often draws over itself, I don't know if that's just a failing of the games accuracy with drawing but obviously drawing over an area that's already been done increases draw time.
Other than these things I think it's pretty awesome!
Keep it up :)
Max
Yeah I have noticed the issue with the hot key capturing sometimes not working... I will look into this. The issue with the 'drawing over itself' is with the inherit DPI of the canvas. Wooden signs have a lower DPI than that of a picture frame thus increasing the size of a canvas pixel. This is why you notice that a line may draw twice or even three times and appear to draw over itself. The tricky part to coding a fix is that Rustangelo would have to not only know what type of sign it is, but the signs exact dimensions on screen. With the ability to angle signs any which way this makes for a tricky problem.
Yeah that's what i figured. How about one of the steps on Rustangelo is to select what you're drawing on? Then would it be possible for it to fully zoom out the painting and then zoom in X amount and angle it so it's straight? Not sure how easy that would be but maybe an option.
I will try it out on one of the bigger canvases and see how it goes.
Hey,
Any image I try to load up will show up as an empty gray area after dithering: http://i.imgur.com/dYHjRVt.jpg
Everything seems fine before that point, any ideas?
*I've tried multiple different image formats from different sources
Well I started off with this one: http://i.imgur.com/LmGoCtw.jpg
But since then I've also tried others such as the Rust Logo and other random images.
I'm pretty sure it's not related to the image, I'll try looking around on my laptop to see what might interfere with this.
Wait... does that mean i was too late :(?
Edit: I was trying to find it for too long, i found it on my phone and couldn't refind D: had to make a redit thread to find this... dammit...

When you press F12 the second time, after capturing the drawing coordinates, it is asking you to capture the RUST palette. This means you are to draw the rectangle around the color palette on the right. Please refer to this demonstration video for more detail: https://youtu.be/8DdvCwKX0wQ
New problem. I tried to create an image using this picture:
I go to draw it and define the dimensions the first time then get this window:
I press f12(or the start at the bottom) and it asks me to define the dimensions again.
I get the drawing information prompt
notice the '1 color' when there is clearly two.
heres my 'ready prompt afterwards'
Also had a problem earlier where it wouldn't select colors from the pallet on the side (I made a post above).
I began to draw it and it came out like this after tracing the borders of the draw parameters
The orange color is the one I selected.

**Posted after using the software for 2 hours**
Very well built and responsive so far from what i've experienced. I love how feature filled it is, every small detail just adds to the QoL (especially the image from url!). My only nitpick would be the lack of color varieties, perhaps color blending could be added to achieve more colors? Other than that, maybe an option to auto fill background (could include basic gradients / textures?). Only small issues i've faced have been unresponsive f12 presses (although usually only ~5 presses max).
All in all, the software is very well built, and have not faced any serious issues so far.

**edit : also pleased to say that the software also works well with low graphics and stretched resolution! (graphics 1 when canvas isn't high resolution) Which is a great relief. Props.
Also curious as to what you plan on adding in the future? :3
Thanks for the feedback! I do not plan on adding any image editing functions such as auto fill because I do not want to replicate a paint app. I wanted to keep Rustangelo simple and intuitive. I am currently working on a fix to the inconsistent hotkey capture. And I have a few ideas for future features, but nothing I can divulge yet (still in the works).
UPDATE: The hotkey issue has been resolved. The F12 hotkey has been changed to F10 to avoid issues with Steam screen capture.
A tutorial popup has been added at app start to assist a first-time user with proper Rustangelo usage. And app tips have been added throughout the drawing process to provide additional information to the user.
I don't have the new version packaged up for download and testing yet. I plan on releasing the new build next week for beta testing.
Thanks for the feedback everyone!
RUSTANGELO UPDATE!
New demo video is now available and a few screenshots (see below).
Many changes have been made so far since the release of the beta last week and I expect to push out a new version for testing tomorrow. The changelog will be posted at that time.
The biggest update is Rustangelo can now paint using
100 colors. It achieves this by utilizing different brush opacities to blend the color with the background.
Fellow beta testers! The new version is ready for download!
Use your originally supplied download link to obtain the latest version (or email me if you lost/deleted it)

Hey can you please upload the installer on google , drive or something else . I am keep getting token expired error on link from the beginning
and yes I am beta tester , and there is no intent to share it with anyone else
If you can do this i would really appreciate your help
you can mail me the link : rajnaimesh007@gmail.com
yes , I tried to contact the dev and he rested the link for me 5 times but , I don't want to disturb him anymore
thanks
So first I want to start of saying thank you for this awesome project and me beeing a part of the beta tester, thats awesome!
I've been testing this programm for like 1 day now and I can tell you some pro's but also some con's about it.
Pros:
- Very detailed:
I mean you can literally screen a website and paint it on to the signs! That is awesome. (That was obviously way over the head but I hope you get what I mean)
- Easy to use:
Personally I had no problems finding out how this programm works even without the tutorial. It feels very comfortable and is just so easy to use.
- The way it paints:
Its really cool seeing that its also using brighter colors such as bright blue and blue blue. The programm itself seems to be smart.
Cons:
- Time:
It takes so much time painting a picture this way. I do understand that the programm needs its time and stuff but it's still a con and should be mentioned.
- Colors:
The things I noticed is that the programm doesn't always uses the correct colors such as when I was painting the "Winter is coming cover" picture and cropped out the middle part with the black wolf & white background. The white background got nearly completly grey and it was trying to paint the background gray.
But all in all this programm is awesome and I'm proud to tell you guys that this is next gen shit.
Yeah my bad!
Here is the "gray thing" I was talking about
Handmade Game of Thrones sign (been a long time since I made this one, tbh it kinda sucks :D)
Programm made Game of Thrones sign (pretty detailed)
Okay, it happened again. I just started the program, loaded the image, and bam this happened. I know it can draw it better than that because I seen it load a better preview before. Thoughts?
Original :
Update: After I clicked on the default for the settings (even though the only thing that really changed was the default background color) the preview updated to a better version.
It has to do with how the image gets dithered. My suggestion is to do a fill on the areas where there is light purple and dark green. If you zoom in really close you will notice there are off colored pixels scattered in those areas. See: http://i.imgur.com/H4j8J7B.png
Alright, so here I am with my 2nd review.
This time I did "Geralt of Rivia" from "The Witcher" - Series and damn he looks hot.
But I discovered some kind of bug because I had to paint him multiple times.
In the end he did look like this.
But when I painted him the first time it just missed so many colors and left it white like this.
It also has some white spaces left in my end result but I'm more then satisfied.
I don't know what made it happen to leave this white, maybe because I dragged the paintable area into the border of the frame.
Oh and btw. I don't know why it is like this but I had to restart a couple of times because my Internet got interrupted and I got kicked out of the server but when I tried to start the picture again it always told me a diffrent time even with the same size.
And one cool feature could be that it automaticly updates the sign as soon as its done even if you have the "auto-update" function turned off.
But as I said in my first review this again is very detailed and I'm going to keep painting pictures and give you guys feedback.
One thing I have noticed, at first I used to also select the update and cancel in the palette selection portion and whenever it would try to select a shade of red it would cancel out of the painting and spin in circles as if it was still trying to paint. Another thing on sketches and things of that nature (like my profile picture on here) if actually can't draw stuff like that. It just makes a super shaded picture and tries to go deep into detail with it. Only two things I've noticed so far.
Hello Patrickk, you are not to include the Update/Cancel buttons in the Controls Area capture. Please refer to the tutorial or demo video for a more detailed explanation on this. Also, try using the Grayscale image tool before painting your sketch. After you load the image, right click and choose Image Tools -> Grayscale.
i have had a problem today where no matter what picture i choose it turns it into a greyish very light colour.then when it paints it only does it with a light shading of the picture barely viewable here is the the original and what it looks like the app http://imgur.com/a/H2Xzx
definitely wast including the update or cancel buttons. still getting the problem. http://imgur.com/a/H4U08 getting it with even spiderman lol
I tried his image, and got this.
Not bad for a tiny as fuck thumbnail.
no where near what he got.
http://imgur.com/7WC3MHP
:d hope this helps.
http://imgur.com/1gI2VC4 all the colours seem to be around the same shade. even if i scroll down they are all the same
Thanks for the all the feedback my beta testers! The public release is now ready and available for download. See: https://itch.io/t/27634/rustangelo-is-now-available-for-download
