right now i have a small amount of games, some free and some have to pay for

but a start is  a start

is there any decent way to get featured on the itch home besides devlog

The only way is to keep making amazing games and hope for the best. There’s not much else. The itch team features game that they’ve tried and thought were amazing and worthy to be in the front page.

So the first step is to make games like that.

so my classic 2d games are unlikely to get featured especially in the kid friendly way i made them; good thing i advertised elsewhere

The traditional way would be making games that look interesting, tagging them correctly and taking the time to write a compelling description.

After you have tried to do that, you could make a post in the release announcements and/or try directly contacting your favorite YouTuber to have a look at it.

Edit: To be a little more specific: There’s this marketing concept called AIDA, which proposes that customers go through the stages Attention, Interest, Desire, Action” on their decision making process towards purchasing a product. Right now your problem is, that even if one of your projects gets a user’s attention (despite the lack of tags, which would make it discoverable) there is nothing there to hold their interest: No screenshots, no description…

Look at how the store pages of other games look. Then ask yourself if your own presentation still looks at the very least serviceable to you. And while you’re at it, maybe reconsider some of your price tags as well.
