Hey Holland, thank you so much! man, I'm so glad I joined itch, as these conversations have made me question my approach to creating games (Java not so ideal). So, I ended up asking the person that supplied the javacode on YouTube (ForeignGuyMike) and it's in Java "Swing".
He replied "I wouldn't use Swing for games anymore. Best if you just port this to some gaming framework".

Also, The more I talk to people on here, I believe this is to do with security concerns with Java in the future, and I'm not using jApplets, I am using jFrames, so that may be an issues also that I would have to iron out.

....I did learn a bit in eclipse about setting this entry point, but I'm feeling like overall I need to revamp my approach.

So, I'm going to change directions and spend my time learning C# and playing with Unity for beginners! Thanks again.

Thanks SimoensS this helps alot, I'll look into Unity (is it free?... I'm sure a quick google search will tell me haha)

I guess I have these great code gaming engines in java currently, that's the main reason I'm clinging to it perhaps as I have so much flexibility and control with gravity / damage / hits / tilemapping etc

Thanks TerraCottaFrog, yea I need to maybe get some approved "code signing" happening.
I have about 7 levels, and a boss of sorts, so I hope it works out :D thanks.
I have a few friends playing this .jar and having fun so far, it is challenging (that's why I made an more in depth tutorial)

Yes, itch support said this about launching .jar in browser on submission, so sounds like this is my monthly goal for finishing this to my expectations :)

"The entry point is the package name of the class you compiled into your jar. Once you get it correct it should work on the draft page. If you're using an existing game engine then they might have a tutorial about how you would embed your game into a browser, and they'll describe what your entry point is."

Hey Holland, thanks for the reply. I'm confused right, as you can upload .jar and can choose "play in browser", I asked support and they said this, but didn't really lead on about an functionality issues with browsers.. :S

Thanks for the feedback, it's weird they added .jar to have it phased out, but I think it's fairly common on Android also, so I may move to making java apps for android in the future. I have that android studio currently also, hmmm. OKay, will keep this in mind, on the current page, I had a download, I've had 3 people download it, and I downloaded the .jar in Chrome...in Chrome now and I see "download now", but I see my browser is like "don't run this unless you really trust it" for the .jar

Thanks man! I have a quick 2D project I want to work on with my son, so I really like the turnaround time that this background-generator provides, haha. :) Gotta finish up some other work first

What are you making this in / on? I love 2D platformers, just trying to work out my 2nd platformer soon, but I fear its become more of a side scrolling space ship kinda 2D game recently haha )
I'm using Java personally, with Eclipse.

Seems like a great start. creativity rocking along!

Hey Everyone, hope your game is going well, just posting on the threads to see if anyone has had much experience submitting .jar (java awt) games to itch.io?

Anyone out there like that, all I really need is to set the "entry point of my game' correctly I believe,... to get it to play in a browser. My main issue is having the game as a playable .jar in a browser, thanks!

Any discussion / help apprecaited :) ~ Zero_Fade

Hey Wichery Studios, What is the scripting work? what do you write in?

I'm about 99% complete on my Alpha versions of my 2D "Fly Squirrel Fly" .jar Java game! I just need one last part, publishing a .jar file correctly to itch.io!! I am coding my game in Java on Eclipse (Neon) on a windows machine and using Photoshop for the artwork. I have one main catch...

As I only posted it as a "downloadable .jar". (which has all kinds of security warnings)... I want to post it to play on the website itself. Can anyone help?! that is my main goal from this Jam. But I feel the answer may lie more in reading more about Java / Eclipse.

Basically,..I am at a snag with one part of the "Draft" page, it won't display my game (but I can run it locally as a .jar).

I think it has to do with this: (has anyone had to set "entry point of game" in Java?)

JAR class name — Enter entry point of game, eg. io.itch.MyGame

I assume my game should simply run in the "Draft" mode if I have the entry point right? (Support confirmed this).
So, I don't feel this game is complete at all, even tho I published it :(, so am joining this Jam. and reading more online about this ;) Thanks for any assist! if you can help, I will totally draw some 8 Bit animations for you (like in my game) lol- Zero_Fade

Java! I'm on a windows machine using Eclipse (Neon) making Java 2D games currently Any developers?!? Feeling frustrated and I need some help with the java "entry point of game" displaying on submission, if anyone has submitted Java (.jar) games before I need some assistance with this "Fly Squirrel Fly" .jar game, which is a 2D platormer with "Squizza" the squirrel.

So I tried to upload my first .jar java executable game but ultimately failed and just posted a "downloadable .jar". (which has all kinds of security warnings).

'm pretty sure it's io.itch.main ... but that doesn't seem to show a game on the draft page.

Some pretty clean digital art! I looked over your site, a lot of cool ideas. Makes me kinda inspired

Haha, Great contrast, just made me chuckle a little. I work in IT also and it's definately using code for multiple purposes and uncovering other peoples projects to make sense of them code wise. I am just getting the hang of Python this year, to use with Twilio for like, text message passcodes etc, I used to do FTP with Encrypt / Decryption stuff also, that's pretty useful

Sup, I'm Zero Fade (L8tin), I've been working on Java at work so it leaked over into my personal interest of graphic design and dreaming about making games since 1987 I think (Commodore 64). I just released my first game yesterday 12/29/16 called "Fly Squirrel Fly", it was over a year in the making, but I feel I learned so much and have a solid gaming engine now as a core for 2D platformers.

I'm interested in all kinds of music and games, and have 3 kids now, so my spare time is so limited, but I'm having a great time coding and using Adobe suite to create graphics Thanks, hope you have a great day!
