The car physics are pretty amazing. This was made with construct 2 right?

Sunday-Report | no. 1

I'm going to start with a gameplay video. This is the current state of the game, it will be uploaded and playable for free in your browser this week.
Graphics are still a little mix of the prototype and the reworked elements. As you can see, some details are missing (check out the Concept-Screenshot above). However the main mechanics of the game itself are fine and almost finished. Currently I'm optimizing the UI and working on the "Power-Ups-List" to find the 5 most important or coolest PowerUp-Ideas which will be posted here in a few days. Anyway, back on topic: Here's the gameplay video for you.

Is this all made by you alone? Very impressive.

Hello arcade & retro friends!

I'm making my first steps in game development and I'd like to share my progress with those who are interested in watching this project grow.

The Project
Asteroids.X is a shoot'em up arcade game set in space and a clone of the classic Asteroids game. Mixed with modern features.

The Features

  • 3 different weapon types. Everyone with its own characteristics.
  • easy to learn, but hard to master ship navigation.
  • 2 different boosts that enable at intervals.
  • 5 different power-ups
  • playable and executable in your browser (no installation needed)
  • global high-score table
  • your high-score will be submitted. Outstrip your opponent.
  • and more coming up in the next post

Current state

At the moment the game is in early-state but still very advanced. It is playable and the link to the game will be posted here next week. I tested with friends and a small internet community the very basic game mechanics and feel. There will be improvements coming up in every detail.

Concept

The Goal

is to create a nice and decent shoot'em up web-game for everyone. To achieve this I need some help from retro, arcade and shoot'em up fans that are interested in this project and like to look on how a game evolves to final stage. You can discuss good or bad game features/changes and mechanics, criticize loudly or quietly, play the latest build and compete against others or just stop by every now and then for screenshots, soundtracks, gameplay videos and short making-of clips. Also planned is a community-homepage but for now following this blog (Bookmark or Subscribe) will do the rest.

So, let's get the show on the road!

pretty cool concept. Though it still sounds very complex for a game that has to be finished in 1 or 2 month, but I could be wrong :) wish you the best!

Hi, I replayed a few days ago but don't see it here. Maybe I forgot to click on post since I was in the office at that moment. However, I did not make the game specifically for the jam. I gave myself a deadline to finish a playable and showable game till january. It's the first time that I accomplished to publish something so I thought it would be ok to submit for this jam. I can remove this submission if you want?

Sorry no. I did not make it for the jam specifically. But it says:  "...finish up something you've been putting off for months" I thought it would be okay to submit.

Yes, as I'm not really a good coder I have to help myself out with easy to use engines. I was building the game with Construct2
Which I can recommend, especially for prototyping. It gives you the possibility to work very fast. But it's also strong if you are planing bigger projects.
I read that you are using GameMaker. I never tried it, are you happy with the engine?

Ah so you scripted it entirely. Well, I would say you achieved something new ;)

Nice game! I scored 4108 points :) What game engine did you use? Do you save the highscore local on on a cloud?

short but strong. Nice graphics, nice music, nice game. ;)

Hey, I'm developing my first shoot'em up game. Actually my first game ever. I started a lot of projects but always quit, since I was trying to build something big...so this is the first time I am actually going to finish one. As for the game, it's a Asteroids clone with some features and the development process is pretty advanced so far but I must admit, I started to develop this game in dezember. Still I would like to share it in this jam, since I designed it to gain new experience . Making smaller games gives you a much bigger confident-boost.

I'll have a look after work ;)

great game! I just think sometimes it doesn't capture the space-bar input or it feels like it doesn't capture it. Maybe a feedback like soundfx or a short flash would help out? Apart from that it's a pretty nice game. 4/5 Would color my stick again :D

I have to say Myerax is right. I like the game idea, but it takes way to long to find out what's in that chest. Maybe you can start with at least 2 or 3 objects? Just to offer some variations while trying to make gold? However, I like the idea ;)

"Rate this disgusting trash" made me laugh too, very creative ^^ 4/5 for the humor

Of course. I just thought people have to vote somewhere but I didn't see any button, that confused me a bit ^^

Oh I got it. There is no voting right?

I participated the first time for a game jam. I just don't know how does it work afterwards you submitted your game. Who is rating the games for this jam? One person, the game-jam-community or everybody? When is the rating-time over? Ty in advance

somehow funny and not really time-consuming ^^

very cool concept. It's fun
