No, not really. Sorry, but I mean we don't have 16-bit processors anymore. So I guess by more pixelated you mean something that brings that Sonic nostalgia?  I cant really draw so my sprites are mostly 16x16 would that count like 16-bit?

Hello all,

I am relatively new to game dev and dont know much of the game genres.  I was doing some search on this topic and got things like the amount of color used for your game or something about the processor used.

I guess it would be better if we clarify this from you. What makes a game 16-bit?

Thank you!

So is it like two days or can I use my 48 hours in all  week by recording my work time. I mean, brainstorming in that case is not really included :)

Thanks, I will look into, I know that Cinemachine has check for pixel perfect, but I think it didn't much for our case. But resolution is definitely something I want to study.

awww... we built so traps, and holes, ways to hurt yourself, just to motivate you to use it, but im glad you liked it! :)

Glad you liked our mechanics, some stuff is a bit annoyinh, but we didnt had much time. As for getting stuck, if you are referencing to level3, then it was our endgame so it was hard, maybe too hard. We felt like doing a Hollow Knight :D Anyways it could have been passed by using double jump and dash at the end. But thanks a lot for playing and rating :)

thanks, that's a great advice.

Mine was "32x32", but not really :D And it didnt look close as cool as yours. But we also zoomed the camera to close, I will try to expand my art and make the camera bigger :)

Coming up with Rewind power or mechanic is one thing, but how to make players use through level design is another.

My friend played our game and complained about many things that didn't have, like wall jumping, or that our dash through enemies hurts player.

In our game, Soul Printer, player Summons a soul print to save his health and position, and later when he is hurt/ stuck he can rewind back and heal up or get out of deep holes. But you can easily play any platformer without a need of such power, so we made so the dash hurts player, so you need to heal, we filled the level with many deep holes, but you can avoid them, so we introduced a key that you have to find, and OBV it can be found in one of the holes. Also we made a trap, that you can only survive if you have a good positioned Soul Print. On top of all this, when I was testing my game and was trying to get through it as fast as possible I realized that the mechanics can be mastered, so we put in a timer, for competitive players.

Tell me, how did you designed your levels to make rewind necessary.

The game was nice, a good puzzle, and good use of rewind, got me thinking, also the art was solid, Overall very good rating ;) Too bad its a downloadable game, didn't seem to be so requiring, but very Nice work!

Thanks, glad you enjoyed :)

Amazing, I loved the game, to include particles as a feedback for dash was a really cool touch, Im sorry but I will try def something like that in my next project :D  The art was amazing, too, I did art for our game so I can appreciate. And level design as well, smooth escalating. Nice work, my best rating so far!!! And i doubt someone will get better :D If you dont mind, how many pixels you used for your character?

The story was good, I like that, we didnt even bothered. :D Could have maybe asked for more colors and faster pace of a game. Also I noticed that the walking animation doesnt seem to really sync with movement speed, but thats an easy fix. Overall, good game for 7 days ;)

Try our Browser game :) Soul Printer.

Playing your game now

I liked the art, very nice and overall feeling was like a pro designed game, I just think that maybe it escalated too fast. Like level two there were already three monsters shooting me and cornering me.

Thank you! Glad you liked it! Yeah the bug with getting stuck on the wall, when you have to jump, if thats the one you talking about, is one of things we forgot to fix.

https://itch.io/jam/brackeys-4/rate/723420 See if you can finish it. :) There is a warning about the controls in the description! Have fun! ;)

The game was nice, easy to control, also easy to finish, however I didn't had to use the time controls at all, next time I would recommend using level design to push players into using special powers, in our game we choose not to give player wall jump and force him to jump into holes that he can get out only using rewind. Also we have a trap, that you can escape only by using rewind. And rewind heals you.

WoW! I loved it, liked the art style, game design, and rewind was cool. Nice work. And the way you added the lore by reading the computers, I will use that kinda technique in my next game :) Overall, you are my best rating so far! ;)

We use gravity 3 or 2 and Jumpforce 11, but it depends from the size/resolution of your game.  And about the jump I suggest you watch Brackeys video on platformer, there should be a working formula for the jump.

We forgot about many things as well, we even had a problem with uploading the game a night before submission end, we had like 30 builds trying to fix it :D

Didn't really see how it fits with the Rewind, must have missed the controls on that, but I did enjoy the colors and simple art. Nice work with that, you can fix the player getting stuck on bricks, by either using capsule collider for player, or one whole box  collider for platform, or composite collider + tile collider if you are using tiles. For the Jump you can also use bigger jump force, and bigger gravity. That way the jump will snapier and feel better ;) Nice work! ;)

The art was good, did you made the assets all by yourself? There were times, were order of the assets conflicted, like the blue crystal, you can change in that sprite renderer there is order, most of the time player is top so he has the highest order.  Also you should make camera to look forward, so that the player can see the enemy better. And I would suggest next time, try and make the game easier to access.  WebGl is the best. but some games are too heavy for that.  ;) Overall good job! ;)

Geez it scared few times! And the thread is such an as#!% running away like that. But cool game, it made me feel things, so nice work. I like that you even included cockroaches.  The melody was creepy, yet beautiful :)

Thanks for playing! Yeah, about the controls, we are so noobs, like we used almost all the wrong buttons, but we wised up from this game :) It seems that we should made a better explanation about the Soul print, what we did say was that Soul print saves your health and position in level1, we did prompt player to use it twice in level1. We should have said that the soul print cant defend or attack and to keep it safe. And we agree Dash should have better code. Thanks for you feedback! Much appreciated. :)
Havent played. Celeste just seen some videos. But I am considering to do my homework. :D Starting with HollowKnight.

Unfortunately wasn't able to finish your game, it was super hard to control the jump. I'd recommend next time using Rigidbody2d.velocity for jump and increase gravity too, the jump then feels more realistic. Also the tutorial should listen for players input so that someone who already played the game could skip it faster.  If you want you can text me and I could give you some tips, explain how to do the code behind tutorial. The music was good and mechanics too. For the first game. good job, keep doing and you WILL get better! ;)

Nice game, liked the art, and animations seemed smooth, tried to see what you used for walking animation. Got to the level where there clouds and couldnt jump on them and other than that didnt figure what else to do with them. Nice level design otherwise. The audio was good too, fitted perfectly. :)

Thank you! Glad you enjoyed. Yes movement is something we could have improved, but todo list was so big, that all the little things got buried under :D

I did art for my game, but I abandoned all hope for some little things because of time.  Also this is like my second time using pixel art, not very confident yet. So I can appreciate ;) By the way I love the walking animation, so smooth, I would just maybe make back leg more in shadow, probably all of it, to have bigger difference and can better see the movement.

Great game, I like the idea of sacrificing evolution to get new powers, but of most of all I enjoyed the art. Nice work, so much little details!

We are glad you enjoyed, and yes its kinda annoying to go back if you forgot to summon a Soul print, but this is why there is no limit of prints. I thought at first that maybe its too annoying, since the games seems to be fast paced, but you have to rewind back to the soul, but it can be mastered. This is why we added timer, to push players trying to master it.

Thanks! I thought we covered everything good enough. We will take better care next time. Glad you enjoyed playing :)

Its an interesting game, only its hard to understand what the resources are good for. Like what are the consequences of ignoring some resources.
