I really enjoyed playing this game.  It's very addictive!

Things I loved:

  • I love the fact that you can interact with things on the map (like the crossbow in the second level).
  • I love the snowball pigs!  They are my favorite.
  • The aesthetic is great, I love the animations.

Some general issues I noticed:

  • When I hit escape, the game didn't pause.  It would be good to break the action if I need to get up or pull my attention away from the game.
  • When I hit escape, the shop closed on it's own, I'm not sure if that was intended.
  • I know it's a TD and most of the mechanics are probably known to fans of the genre, but there was little explanation as to how to play, where to click, etc.  Luckily I knew what to do based on playing previous TD's, but a fresh player might get frustrated not knowing the basics of the game at first.

A couple of gameplay suggestions to improve the game:

  • The cost of trashing a tower should also include the upgrades you've added.  I went to reposition some of my towers after they had been upgraded a bit and it didn't seem like the price of the upgrades was included in the refund.
  • Is it possible to add a repositioning feature?  Maybe at a cost of gold.
  • The coins that drop need to be more noticeable.  I found myself missing out on clicking them purely because I didn't notice they dropped.  I think it should be very obvious that a coin appeared and that I need to click it as soon as I possibly can!

A couple of my own suggestions (don't need to include these, they are just ideas):

  • It would be cool to see the towers build up and look physically more imposing as you upgrade them.  i.e. the machine gun pigs could start with a pistol, but end up with a huge AR or something at full level for example.
  • Adding an offensive drop along with the coins would be good that you also need to click.. i.e. a clickable that sends the nearby wolves back a bit if you click it in time.

Overall this is going in a really great direction.  I played for over an hour and didn't notice I was playing that long.  Great job, and I look forward to playing future builds!

Thanks for playing!

Hey thanks for playing the game!

Thanks for the video and playing the game!  We had a lot of ideas for performers but had to cut out so many to meet out 5 week scope.. maybe some more will eventually work their way in.

Thanks for the reminder!  Done.

Thanks so much for testing!  The "C" button was actually a bug.. it wasn't supposed to return you to the menu, you normally should have to hit esc then select "Quit".

I will update the bullets to contrast with the background better, thanks for the feedback there!  I'll also look adding something for the ships.  The dialogue boxes should fade out of view slightly out of view if you get close to them, and also you can disable subtitles in the options which will get rid of them altogether.

Thanks again for testing!

I need play testers for my roguelite shmup "Attack of the Karens"!  I'm at the full alpha stage of the game and would like to release in a few months, so I want to TEST TEST TEST as much as possible.  I would be extremely grateful and would love to test your projects in return.

Areas I need feedback on (in order):

  1. Difficulty curve
  2. Are the bosses fun to fight?
  3. Menu bugs (if any, been having a few lately)
  4. Does anything feel missing from the experience?
  5. Bugs/issues
  6. QOL improvements you can think of

Thanks!

Save the world from entitlement.

Defend your city to your last breath in this zany, rambunctious roguelite shoot 'em up. An evil alien pathogen has mutated four spoiled women and turned them into cyborgs with massive robot armies. It's up to you to cancel them forever!

Attack of the Karens Demo

I've just relased a test alpha for my game Attack of the Karens!  It's a rambunctious rogulite shoot 'em up with big boss battles.

I'm still testing, so there will be bugs.  If you'd like to help test and make the game as good as it can be, I'd love your help.

Attack of the Karens Alpha!

Sometimes that’s all you can do in a jam!  I really loved the BTTF2 Pepsi… made me grin!

Thanks!  I'm glad you enjoyed my little game :)

Thanks for playing!  It was a lot of fun to make the game.

Thanks for playing!  It was a lot of fun to make.

Thanks!  I think you beat me.. the highest I've been able to get to was lv 13 so far.  Nice job!

awesome!

Thanks so much for playing it!

Thanks so much for playing!

A lot of potential here!  I love the vaporwave aesthetic and the camera focus effects.

I wasn't able to load a level.

I loved this game!  The music was so good!

Holy cow i LOVED this game!  This reminded me of "Papers, Please" and had a very fun aesthetic to it!  The only complaint I have it that the intro text sequence should be skippable, as it's not really necessary once you've seen it.

This was really good!  It was fun beating up the enemies.

This was great, but I couldn't figure out where to go or what to do.  Also, the camera being controlled by the mouse was very touchy and made it hard to orient myself.  Great atmosphere and lighting though!

Very nice atmosphere!  The cursor disappears on the pause menu, though.  I also had trouble finding my directions, and would end up going backward sometimes.  Maybe colored lighting that changes as you progress would help the player orient themselves better?

Yeah unfortunately that's how jams go sometimes!

Looks like the web build isn't loading for me.. try building it as a development build first, then build again as normal and re-submit.

these are some awesome ideas!  I didn’t realize I misspelled grandpa in some spots, I’ll have to go back and fix it.

I had thought about adding power ups you can click on that slow the walking speed of everyone but grandpa, etc.. or elevators that people ride up and down sometimes.  I only had limited time for the jam so this is what I ended up with but I might add more down the road

Not gamepad compatible unfortunately…

Awesome game!  Loved every minute of it!  So charming.

Loved it! Nice job.

I loved it!  The music and art was great, and i like the concept.

Loved it!  Tons of fun and hits home as dad!

Awesome game!!  This concept should be further developed!  I would pay for something like this

Fun!

Glad to know I'm a true gamer!

Hey guys!  My first jam, I'm looking for a team or a partner to jam with..

I can do any of the following:

  • Unity Development (C# coding)
  • Pixel Art
  • Music
  • Sound

Let me know if you'd like to work together!  I have a mic.

Also, I'm 36 with a family and a full-time job, so the time I'll have to work on this is limited, but what time I do set aside, I'll work very hard and be as efficient as I can be.
