Bumping this post! We’ve made quite a few updates since we first shared our game. Give it a try and leave a rating—my co-creator or I will do our best to play and rate your game in return. Thanks!

Left you a comment and a rating here is my game: https://itch.io/jam/brackeys-14/rate/3840553

Nice game! I really like the art and sounds. The platforming is a bit challenging, though—the squirrel seems to have some momentum that makes it easy to fall.

Nice game! I liked the art and the upgrade system. It’s simple but still challenging.

Nice, creative game! I clearly have a lot to learn—I don’t think I ever got more than one question right in a row.

Thanks for playing! I've fiddled a little bit with balance today - to make the player feel a little stronger and there to be more enemies.. but hard to say if it will have much effect on pacing, that is probably a broader design issue.

Thanks for playing!

Thank you for playing and for the feedback! The freezes might be a bit tricky to track down since I’m not seeing them on my end, but I’ll try to reproduce them on my other machines. (I did find and clean up various errors that were logged during gameplay, so maybe fixed? - I also added a warmup load for all particles when you first load in) And I can definitely fix those cookies falling when the game is paused!

Hello everyone,

I’ve just submitted our game in its current state! The core gameplay is fully implemented and playable. Right now, we’re focusing on adding music, improving visuals/gameplay, and general polish.

We did most of the work on Monday and Tuesday—I even drove about 3 hours north to jam in person!

Give it a try and share your thoughts, feedback, or suggestions:

BLACK CAVERN – A Roguelite Adventure of Light and Shadow

https://shortstring.itch.io/black-cavern

Descend into a forgotten cavern where enemies lurk in the shadows. Use torches to navigate, master precise archery, and upgrade your skills to survive. Find the exit door or rope on each level to delve deeper. Between runs, visit the tavern to upgrade abilities and stock up on supplies.

Features:

  • Increasing Difficulty – Monsters get stronger based on the floor.
  • Limited Visibility – Use torches and light arrows to illuminate your path.
  • Tavern Upgrades – Upgrade skills and buy supplies to survive deeper levels.

This is our first demo release and is still quite early in development. Check it out and let us know what you think! We're a two-person team and started development in December.

Should be fixed now - at least it was for my older computer, I had the movement being applied on event tick which seemed to tie the movement to how fast your cpu is. It is maybe a little too fast now, but I think it is at least consistent across different computers now.

Nice game! I liked the art and the upgrade system.

Nice game and tutorial! I really liked the variety of unique items you can use to take down the spirits.

There’s a bit of glare on the screen, but otherwise everything seems functional. The puzzle works fine, but it looked like it would take a while to move all the numbers around. I was trying to click the individual boxes to change the numbers directly (until i found the arrows).

Nice game, I liked the voice mails and minigames.

I felt a little lost in the game and wasn't sure what I was supposed to be doing. I tried to do the puzzle and eventually found the key but it was too difficult to input into the screen so I gave up.

Nice job on the game! I played a few rounds and really enjoyed the concept. It would be even more engaging with a few additional wave mechanics and more art. Keep up the great work!

Nice game—I really enjoyed the mini-games!

Thanks! We started with a Kanban board on the first day to plan a 22-story sprint. By Thursday, we had completed 14 of the original tasks, so we spent the last two days focused on QA/testing and polishing things up. We originally had planned for an oxygen system and a few other features that we just didn't have time for.

Thanks for the feedback! I actually did not test on multiple devices.. I just downloaded on my older pc and the 3rd person game has about half the frame rate as my new computer.

I will look into optimizing!

Nice work on the intro cutscene!

Played and rated your game!

Thanks! I played and reviewed your game as well.

Cool game! I think it's a great idea, but it could use a bit more balance. Waves 1 and 2 felt overwhelming, while wave 3 felt long and fairly easy with all the upgrades and power-ups.

I never got past week 1—it seems like the time progression might not be finished yet, or maybe I just couldn't figure out what to do. But with all the interactables, it seems like a solid idea for a game.

I didn't have anyone to play with, but this game is really well made! Each player has a lot of moves, the music and sound are great, and the art is fantastic.

I couldn't get past the first wave, but the game has great music and sound, with a solid concept.

Nice game! The minigames for each task were really well done.

Thanks for the rating - I rated yours back!

Nice game! I think it could benefit from more feedback on interactions with the turret and the box. I wasn’t quite sure what the box did, but I did manage to reload the turret. Overall, good job!

Nice game! It features pleasant calm music and sound effects. It's quite challenging but forgiving with checkpoints. However, I couldn't get past the double jump level—I tried about 50 times and only made it past the first double jump spot once. Overall, great job on your first game jam!

The calm phase felt a bit lengthy, and I wished I had more upgrades by the time the sheep arrived. Despite eventually dying, surviving the horde was quite fun.
