Hi @BadTimez, there's nothing wrong with the executable. It must be just windows defender (or other antivirus software?) being over-protective with unknown executables. Unfortunately this is a common issue with c++ apps (see here, for example https://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/protect/forum/all/windows-defender-flagged-m...) and I am not sure how to solve it atm :(

p.s. I suggest a leap of faith!

Hi there, thanks!
By the way I just managed to play your version.
I really like the brushes idea, it would be nice to have more of them (for example some gliders? ), or to allow for a custom brush!

Hi again, thanks for the info! It's nice that you feel like that :) It's fun to see many approaches on the same problem, that's why I made this list. If you make any changes / updates feel free to post on the blog post's comments!

Hi @damaca, nicely done!
Did you use some engine / framework to build this?
I am putting together a list of Game of Life implementations (A long list of Games of Life) just for fun. The list includes your project, but I am missing the "made with" info :)

Hi, Jupiter, thank you for letting me know!

I promise there is nothing malicious in the code,  it just runs image generating algorithms and saves your favorite images to a folder next to the executable.

Windows defender or other antivirus software are sometimes too suspicious of unknown / unsigned programs, that's all!

If you can temporarily disable your antivirus or simply allow it to run somehow, I would love to hear your feedback!

Thanks for taking the time, either way!

Kostas

That's nice! Cool graphics, nice gameplay, plus the logic-puzzle element is engaging!

Feels like a mixture of Silicon Valley, Grow (eyezmaze) and 2048, all in a good sense!

In the level of 'micro-mechanics' it would be nice if one could click faster. Right now the building-placement animations are disabling the clicks for around a second (?) which seemed a bit slow to me. Skippable transitions would help alot, imho!

Any plans for the future?
(e.g. other platforms, or other 'themes' / level - sizes?)

Hello @DevDudeDD, thanks for your kind words!

I totally see your point(s) :) . For example I also get frustrated when I accidentally select something by mistake, so an 'undo' button would be really cool, indeed.

At the moment I have lots of ideas for user control, such as selecting the types of functions that are used by the network, the color - encoding at its output (RGB / HSV / XYZ / LAB etc)  and many more, but I am not sure if / when I will find the time to put them together in a well - organized application with a good UI.

As a first step towards that diretion I am planning to include a settings file, where the user may edit some of these options (such as resolution, functions, output etc) so if you are interested stay in touch!

I tried to run it in Chrome, (with no other tabs open) on a laptop with the following specs :

  • processor: Intel i7-6700HQ
  • ram: 16GB
  • graphics: Nvidia GTX960M
  • system: Windows 10, x64

Personally I have not had much success in getting a good performance out of Unity's HTML output, except for extremely simple prototypes. However there may be tricks to it that I am not aware of.

Good luck! :)

Really nice idea and gameplay, really cute design!

The html - version doesn't do it justice, though, because it runs too slow on the browser (to the degree of being un-playable). Perhaps you could replace the html version with a simple game-play video?

Cool idea, cool implementation :)

I really like the fact that it runs in the browser, too!

Hello and thank you Mike! :)

Hello and welcome back, PROCJAM and PROCJAMmers!

I just submitted my interactive image generator (imaginator), which is based on CPPN / NEAT and inspired by projects such as PicBreeder and EndlessForms.

I wanted to point out that you guys can use imaginator as an assets - generator for your own projects. It would be really nice to see what this mix could lead to!

Have fun, see you around!

Hi, thatrabbit! Thanks for your kind words! :)

Hi there, thank you so much for your kind words! It's really nice to hear that you liked the presentation :) I hope they also help in your projects, as well, if you got them already!

Hi Chris, you may use them any way you like (commercially or not), that's what you paid for! :)

I hope you find them useful in your projects, good luck!

Eugloop, thank you for your kind words! :)

"Things that collide are a quite common thing in video games. How do they sound, though? Bouncy balls colliding with each other? Hard blocks falling on the ground? Stuff that crash when they hit other stuff? How about the player falling on a springy-item that pushes him back into the air (super-mario-style)? Well, not to worry, we got you covered!"
