Explore the Solar System and go beyond in the puzzle-adventure game Atomohod. You flee from dangers, operating the spacecraft, after the alien attack. You'll have to learn the unique puzzle mechanics to produce energy for the flight and study lots of space entities, like alien forms, anomalies, asteroids, minerals, space winds, etc., to survive in the cosmos.

The game has a new small update today. The full changelog below.

15.04.2024:

  • The rare bug (of the time record save) was fixed;
  • Some QoL improvements of messages.

23.12.2023:

  • The new LOW ENERGY MODE was added;
  • It allows newcomer or any player to operate at decreased speeds;
  • The energy output is halved at the lower speed;
  • Thus it's easier to play, but harder to get great results;
  • Therefore the new mode is a good and balanced introduction to the game;
  • Also it's a more comfort field for experiments with combos and setups.

21.09.2023:

  • Text tutorial was edited.

18.09.2023:

  • Cruise mode for the spaceship added;
  • Balance tweaks for the puzzle mode;
  • Minor performance improvements;
  • Bot message adjustments.

13.09.2023:

  • Some design and balance tweaks;
  • Message Bot was adjusted.

30.08.2023:

  • The game performance (including the sound stability);
  • Sounds for the MOLs selection were changed.

25.07.2023:

  • Music and game sounds were added (experimental);
  • The new space region;
  • Bot Message tweaks;
  • Minor level-design changes and bug fixes.

Atomohod is a real-time action game, made in ASCII-style (all the graphics rendered with ASCII-symbols), all the sounds played via retro PC-speaker. Parts of the soundtrack below:

Atomohod is a real-time puzzle game with original mechanics (there are distant similarities with Puyo-Puyo and Tetris). Also, it is a game about planning, knowledge and space exploration.

Be ready to deal with aliens and anomalies, discover planets, collect materials and turn it into energy for the flight in search of the new home.

[in-game music - jump to 1:50 , Jupiter theme]

You fly away from dangers, threatening the Earth, and operate the spacecraft in two real-time modes: the reactor-puzzle mode, where you build and blast chains of atoms to release and store energy for the flight, and the space mode, where you power up the rocket-engines with the stored energy for space traverse.

[the video overview]

The game has no random factor, it requires careful observations and planning. You can develop different strategies for the puzzle and the flight. Hope you'll enjoy it - I'd really appreciate a feedback and ready to help / answer your questions (if any )).

The latest update:

The new LOW ENERGY MODE was added.

[the new mode brief demonstration]

- It allows a newcomer or any player to operate at decreased speeds;
- The energy output is halved at the lower speed;
- Thus it's easier to play, but harder to get great results;
- Therefore the new mode is a good and balanced introduction to the game;
- Also it's a more comfort field for experiments with combos and setups.

The game is complete and fully playable. But I still consider it an early ("alpha") version, because there were no mass testing in any form. It is written in Lua/C for the text mode of DOS, in ASCII style. Available on modern systems via emulation / virtualization.

You can download the Windows-ready version and/or its DOS files for free:

Barbardom is a turn-based micro strategy game, developed in ASCII style for the text mode of DOS. Available on modern systems via DOS emulation / virtualization.

It heavily uses the "15-puzzle" and "3 in a row" concepts in the gameplay. Suitable for brief strategy sessions. Can be addictive.

You can download Windows-ready version of the game and its DOS files for other OS here:

The current version is 1.3. Get the complete manual for Barbardom on the game page.

The big Barbardom 1.2 update!

  • performance improved
  • minor tweaks of the introduction
  • the sacrifice mechanics works as intended now
  • big balance changes ("great flood" and "doomsday" are more strict)

The text in-game tutorial is kinda bad, still. I'm planning to do the separate one, describing main obscurities.

Hope, you'll enjoy the puzzle of Barbardom!

In Barbardom 1.1 (update 11.10.2023) the "too many chips used" error was fixed

1.0 version is out! (10.10.2023 update)

https://primitivethinking.itch.io/barbardom

The 1.0 UPD. 10.10.2023 changes:

  • 1.0 release version is out!
  • game breaking glitch is fixed;
  • rebalancing: bridges, trade and terrain swap were reworked;
  • text tutorial was updated;
  • sounds and music were added (via PC speaker).

Why to bother with Barbardom?

  • it's an easy game to dive into, with several layers of depth;
  • You explore chronicles' tasks, and trading, fighting, building mechanics, packed into the 15-puzzle;
  • it's a turn-based strategy with brief and separate game sessions;
  • its turn-based nature puts less pressure on you, than my real-time puzzle game about space exploration - Atomohod
  • there is a sense of global progress through "masters upgrades", which increase your bonuses;
  • it's made for the command line / text mode of DOS (and has the Windows-ready version) - it's a terminal / ASCII-styled game in medieval setting with the PC-speaker sound, giving old-school vibes.

Download and try Barbardom! (your feedback will be appreciated)

Barbardom is a turn-based micro strategy game, which combines two traditional concepts: "15-puzzle" and "3 in a row" (written for the text mode of DOS in ASCII style, and available on Windows and other OS).

You move one of 15 tile pieces, manipulating the game world. Each piece represents a terrain, a character, a building or a unit of the red or the yellow opposing sides. You can assist any side you want.

3 aligned terrain pieces form a building, and 2 adjacent pieces interact or fight, depending on the type of the piece. Your goal is to delay the end of the world, getting the score and fulfilling the chronicles conditions through building, fighting, trading, and interacting.

You can play the game on Windows (download the Windows-ready version) and on any OS with Dosbox.

Goals for the nearest update:

  • Sound via PC speaker;
  • Small bug and typo fixes;
  • Balance adjustements.
