1. Hi there! What's your name? Want to introduce yourself?

Hi, I'm PandaIzumim but just call me Izumi. Panda's fine too I guess.

2. Did you participate in the last jam we held? If so, what do you plan on doing better this time? If not, what's your reason for joining?

I'm joining because I really need to sit down and just make a game no matter how small it is.

3. What games are your favorites? Did any of them inspire you, or made you want to make your own?

I tend to like RPGs, The Final Fantasy games are some of my favorites, particularly 12, 6, and 8. I also play a lot of Stardew Valley and enjoys games like it and Harvest Moon/Story of Seasons. Final fantasy is definitely what made me want to make games though.

4. Do you have experience with game development? What did you do/with what engine?

I used to mess around with an engine called RPG Toolkit but but I think It's pretty dead now. I've also played around with C++/SDL2 for a bit. I tinkered with Godot for a bit but the engine wasn't for me. Recently I bought RPG Maker VX Ace when it was last on Humble Bundle and did a few tutorials but haven't played with it much aside that. For the past few weeks though I've been learning Cocos Creator and have been enjoying it.

5. Tell us about something you're passionate about!

Honestly art. I love to draw even thought I don't do it as much as I should.

6. What are your goals for this game jam?

For this jam I want to get more comfortable with Cocos Creator and JavaScript RPG Maker VX Ace, maybe figure out pixel art. But really I just want to finish a nice small game.

I'm think I'm going the route of visual novel/dating sim. It'll probably be based off of a supernatural/paranormal comic series that I've been planning and give me something to do with some the minor characters that don't get much screen time but I'm attached to anyway. I'd like to have the option to be able to pick what gender you want but we'll have see depending on how long it takes me to come up with a decent story without spoiling the main story for my comic.

I tried to check it out but my computer's older and couldn't play it :\ I did find a let's play however and watched a bit. It's not my kind of thing though.

I'm pretty bad at this dev log thing. But I also don't have much to say either. I haven't been very productive the last couple of days.

There's not much of a story yet so tomorrow I'll go check out some plot generators and see what comes up.

But instead of just sitting around doing nothing until and idea pops up, I've at least started on coding a state manager and I'll work on the engine(?) aspects and art(tilesets) first then worry about the story.

Hm, life in space... At the moment it looks like I'll be going with a space rpg or shooter type thing or a space colony sim.

So my mind is set on a small rpg right now but a space colony sim is definitely going to be a backup plan in the case that I can't come up with a good story. Now to get started on some planning and do some mock-ups.

Okay, I guess I'm in. I'm Izumi and this is my first jam. I've never finished a full game project before so we'll see what happens.

For my tools I'll be using:

  • Eclipse
  • Photoshop/PaintTool Sai,
  • Graphics Gale,
  • Bxfr,
  • Tiled
  • Maybe Box2D
Though, I'll probably start out with open source game assets and see how time goes.

Good luck everyone.
