Yes thank you for asking! I DM'd you and added some more information to the post.

If you still have room for musicians (or sound designers with a unique music production-informed approach), I'd love to join! My most recent work was the soundtrack for the 2026 7DRL game Cyberdancer. You can find other examples of my music in my compilation album.
My Discord handle is nicki.nicki.nicki and yes, that is three nicki's hehe
Hello! I'm looking for fellow composers / producers willing to join me in contributing samples / loops to a permissively-licensed sample pack. Contributors will be fully credited but this isn't paid nor is it meant as any sort of group portfolio project. It's more of a goodwill to the world kind of thing. If that is something you are willing to contribute to then read on!
There's a ton of composers with well-known songs that make extensive use of samples. Darren Korb and Disasterpiece have both used stock Apple loops, Hideki Naganuma sampled I don't even know what for JSR / JSRF, and Naoki Maeda used a ton of samples from commercial sample CDs in the '90s for the original Dance Dance Revolution soundtrack. And from what I can tell, they have all used at least some of these samples verbatim without any changes.
In the spirit of the aforementioned commercial sample CDs, I am asking for assistance in building a unique sample pack that is kinda going to be a modern online equivalent of one of those sample CDs.
I want someone (including everyone contributing to this) to be able to dive into this library and feel like they could be crate-digging for samples on old records with all the gems they find. Except unlike digging through old commercial recordings, the samples will be permissively licensed* so no one will have to pay anything to use them and there will be no worries or headaches about sample clearance. Plus they can get used by more folx and hopefully over time take on a life of their own. I don't think we're gonna wind up with the next amen break here but who knows!
I'm very early in the process on this and it will likely take a while. There's no specific deadline for submissions or release date for the pack (although I do eventually want to run a music jam where folx use only this pack to make a song) and I don't have any specific genres or sample type requirements at this stage (although that will likely change over time and I'm open to input).
If you're interested in joining me on this wild adventure (either in making samples or helping me organize / plan this thing) then hit me up! You can either contact me directly on Discord at nicki.nicki.nicki (friend request will likely be needed due to Discord limitations) or reply to this post with your preferred means of communication (email is fine too). Once I get a few folx interested, I will likely create a separate Discord server for this project to better facilitate communication.
* I'm leaning heavily towards public domain for this but I also really don't want this to be used for AI training. I know crawlers will likely grab whatever the hell they want anyway but still. Open to discussion about the licensing.
Yes but that might not happen right at the beginning. Not sure if this is the case for you but I tend to get a little anxious each time I reach out to a new person just from contact with a new person. And anxiety can be quite uncomfortable! That sort of initial discomfort is something I've had to practice intentionally going through to realize after a while that, hey, I may feel anxious during a new interaction but that will start to fade as soon as I start chatting with them.
Now after you contact someone and start chatting with them, it's important that you feel comfortable with the contents of the conversations themselves. Things such as feeling like your ideas are heard, having your identity respected, feeling like your time / energy is respected, and just having a good overall feeling about the vibe of who you're chatting with.
Here's the catch though: how would someone work with people they know if they don't know anyone doing game projects? The only answer is to meet new people that are working on projects. In-person events can be awesome but they aren't accessible to everyone (especially when it comes to financial costs and safety concerns for marginalized peeps like myself). So that leaves online communities as the best option for a lot of people (even if the relationship building is slower to start).
For me, it's kinda been like this when I've been looking for portfolio-building projects lately. Step one, what projects I am finding sound interesting to me to work on? Step two, contact them with some stuff I've already made for them to listen to (I make music). There's always some nerves but I get better at contacting people the more I do it. Step three once I'm in contact with someone, is this person nice and do we get along? I'm not just looking for one-off projects (although those can still be valuable). I'm personally looking to build longer term working (and very friendly) relationships where I can do repeated work with people if possible.
Hello! If you're willing to bear with me while I step through the project, I'd be happy to take a look and discuss it over DMs with you. My Discord handle is nicki.nicki.nicki and yes that's 3 nicki's lol
I like to create stuff in general. Currently I mostly make music but I studied game development and computer science for a long time in college. While I haven't done any development in a while, I honestly have really been wanting to start diving into GB Studio for multiple reasons, both music related and dev related. (personal projects plus a planned project with a friend). A lot of that knowledge I've found has been foundational enough to stay relevant for a long time.
So yeah, if that works for you then hit me up on Discord! :D
Hello! I love music jams so I'll likely be joining this one (did some EP Jams years ago and those were fun). Just wanted to share a super important resource directly relevant to this jam.
It is possible to have music you submit be streamable from your song's Itch page! Scritch by torcado is an awesome customizable music player that enables this sort of song / album embedding. I used it for the 7DRL soundtrack I made this year and it works great.
Anyway, hope that helps and enjoy makin' music! 💜
Hello! My name is Nicki. I'm a trans gal and I've been making music since 2007. If you're reading this and you agree that trans folx are valid humans deserving of equal rights then I wanna make music for you!
The most recent project of mine is the gritty Cyberdancer 7DRL OST which I released just this week! On New Year's Day, I released my compilation album Stellar Radiance. It's the best of my pre-transition music! Among many other songs, it includes the music I made for three separate jam games: Cute Crate, Lightlike, and (in an extended form on the final track) Dead Horizons 7DRL. I've also started like half a dozen personal songs since the new year but those are still cookin'.
So, what am I looking for? Long term, I wanna make music for a living with paid projects. Short term? Well, I'd still like to make money from some paid projects. That said, I am totally up for discussing potential game jams or portfolio-type projects as long as 1) you are also wanting to work towards making money from game stuff and 2) you're up for keeping in touch for future projects if we work well together.
Either way, hit me up on Discord and we can chat specifics! My handle is nicki.nicki.nicki and yes, that is indeed 3 nicki's!
Hello! I'm a trans gal that makes music and I'm trying to do music for as many jams as possible this year. Last time I participated in 7DRL was back in 2017 doing the backwater desert planet soundscape for Dead Horizons. I had a blast and I definitely want to get back into doing 7DRL tunes this year.
The best cross-section of my previous work can be found on my compilation album Stellar Radiance (free to listen on Bandcamp, no download required). If you're interested in working together then hit me up on Discord! My username there is nicki.nicki.nicki (and yes that is three nicki's haha).
Hihi, music girlie here! I made the music for this adorable game called Cute Crate back in 2017 and I'd love to make more cute / cozy stuff. What's a good way to contact you? (I've got a link to my Discord on my profile)
The rules for this lovely jam mention that you are free to use samples and loops you have the rights to "as long as the majority of the work is still your own composition and arrangement." If you wanna get some creative ideas for how to pull this off in the realm of video game music, I've got two amazing OSTs for you to listen to:
Both are fantastic. Disasterpeace was actually inspired by Darren Korb's usage of loops in Bastion to give it a go with the Gunhouse soundtrack. From the Gunhouse OST page: "This soundtrack is largely an experiment in using pre-made loops and samples. I wanted to see how far I could get using loops as the primary source of inspiration. It turns out it's a great way to not only work quickly, but to flex creative muscle and do strange aesthetic things."
Anyone else have other cool, creative, and / or off the wall uses of premade loops / samples to serve as inspiration?
Just checked with Ashton & Megan. We've agreed that it's fine as long as you aren't monetizing the videos and as long as you credit all three of us for the music (since I didn't create the EP by myself). Maybe something like this in the description & credits or something:
Music: Space Crew EP by Megan Carnes, Nicholas Day, & Ashton Morris. https://alfredofreak.itch.io/space-crew-ep
Thanks for checking! :D
Hi peeps!
In the interest of helping out people with GBJam audio as much as possible, I thought I'd share some helpful links!
- SFXR is a pretty sweet SFX generator capable of making basic, chippy sounds for your game. Any sounds you create with it are yours to keep!
- BFXR is a beefed-up version of SFXR. As with SFXR, you hold the rights to whatever sounds you create!
- Here's a list of stuff for making chiptune music created by Chiptunes = WIN. Aside from trackers and DAWs, it also has free & paid plugins you can use in any audio workstation you like.
Good luck! :D
Hey everyone!
I'm super pumped for this jam and I just remembered some recordings I made back in 2014 that might help others out. This is a collection of 14 electromagnetic recordings I've published under the Creative Commons Attribution 3.0 (CC BY 3.0) license. What that means is these sounds are free to use, modify, and even sell as part of a commercial product (minus sound libraries) as long as you credit me with the creation of the original sounds. How do you do that? Easy! Just put my Twitter handle (@alfredofreak) along with a link to the pack in whatever credits screen / page / file you have.
Anyway, here's the link. EM recordings are pretty nuts. Have fun! :D
EDIT: I found a team! Best of luck to those hunting down an audio person! If you want to make your own sound effects, I highly recommend SFXR for 8-bit stuff. Hey there! My name's Nick. I'm working to build up my skills in sound design and music, so let me know if you need either one for your jam entry! I can also take care of implementing audio if you're using an engine with C#. The best way to contact me is email (alfredofreak at gmail.com) or Twitter (@alfredofreak). Hope to hear from you! :D
