My name is Derek R Croston. I make games about frustration. The heroes of my games are hampered by the actions of people that are supposed to help. In the sidescrolling shoot em up AWOL Ahab, titular character leaves his post while defending his planet from invasion because the best weapons are stored on a different world.
As an indie developer I deal with frustration a lot. Finding the limitations of game engines and the equipment I own is common. AWOL Ahab was supposed to have voice acting. After recording and editing the audio, it had to be removed.
I feel everyone can relate. That is why I create games about frustration.

AWOL Ahab is available here.
Update 2 (5/12/2017)- Tested the scoring system. It works fine. I will probably make a custom font to replace the current numbers. I might need a new gif encoder too. The damage/defense/game over system is all that is left before the pre-alpha demo is finished. I would like to add a better song to it though.
Update 1 (5/9/2017)- AWOL Ahab is a pixel art horizontal shmup that I started working on about 3 weeks ago. I am working on turning the first level into a pre-alpha demo. You play Dolphin pilot Captain Ahab as he goes Absent With Out Leave during an interplanetary war to retrieve a forbidden weapon called the White Whale. You start out with a fast but frail ship and get the option to pilot the powerful White Whale later in the game.
Below is a what I have at the moment.
