This game is incredible! I think the best parts of it must be the art, the sound and, of course, the story. Also, the horror theme fit so well, there wasn't a single moment in which I didn't feel thrilled to say the least (really spooky! :D).
The only parts that weren't there at all were some puzzles, like the one of the movie titles, which I didn't understand at all, just saw a video on youtube. Although this is a nitpick, it's the only bad thing that occurs to me about this game, I'm really fascinated with the rest of it! Incredible job here.
I think I see what you were going for, and I must say that it's not a bad approach. The only change I would made is tweaking the controls a bit (the picking and climbing weren't quite there), and lower the difficulty of the game, the part when a ghost chases you is awful, I couldn't get past there because the ghost was too fast, and since I couldn't see the map I just bumped into every obstacle. Nice ambience btw
I'm sorry, but played for a while and couldn't get past the first scene on the game. It's extremely dark, I could barely see my character, much less the rest of the scene. There is little to no direction, just "follow the moths", and considering that I couldn't see, that was a really hard task. When I found the light (by chance, 'cause I was just walking around), the dialog the character said didn't help at all, it's like there wasn't a "next step".
I'm sure there is a great game behind this, the screenshots look good, but if I can't get to it, I can't enjoy it :/ sry. <3
I think making games is like making bread. The bigger the dough is, the more time it needs in the oven. In my opinion, this bread is huge, and looks really promising, it just needs a bit more time in the oven.
What I mean is, the game is awesome, it looks good, sounds good and has plenty of mechanics that make it really entretaining to play, but every of them could be a bit more polished, by things like adding coyote time to the platformer or making the boss special attack a bit slower.
Sorry if I was a bit mean, I think the game's really good and has a bright future, but as I understood the idea was to keep working on it, I thought I could give a little more feedback. <3
This is a cool game and a wholesome experience to play. While it's true that more control around the windows would be great, I don't think it's a big deal to go around closing and opening them. The only thing I would've appreciated is a little tutorial, it took me a few runs to understand every mechanic, and even then I made a few mistakes and almost didn't get to the end of the game. Other than that, this is an awesome story told in a very creative and sutile way than makes the experience even better. In fact, it's what kept me playing even when I didn't understand the mechanics at all lol. Great job here!
At first, I didn't understand that I had to leave in order to win, so on my first playthrough I got all the moths but just roamed around until the mothmonster got me. Then on my second game I saw the ladder, so I wouldn't say it ruined my experience, but I think it should be more clear that you have to leave through the ladder.
On the other hand, very good ambientation! I also liked the graphics and the monster design, it just lacks a bit of sound effects. Nice game ;)
I really liked the story and how it's told by the photos, really cool concept, and also well achieved since the ilustrations were amazing. What I didn't like at all were the cinematics, I think in this case, less is more, they would put me completely out of immersion. In my opinion, a jumpscare, or any kind of horror, works better when the player is controlling the playthrough, feels like it's happening to them, if the jumpscare is part of something they cant avoid, it feels a bit distant. But don't misunderstand me, I really liked the game and got spooked with the other jumpscares as well!
Awesome gameplay! It's incredible that you could fit so much in a game for a jam. The voice acting was pretty neat, I think you nailed it there. The story was good, but I think it lacked a proper ending(spoiler), I was expecting something more disturbing to happen with the man, rather than the open ending the game had.
My game kepy crashing at a certain point, and I'm so mad about it because I was really enjoying it, I'm so curious of what comes next. Except for the XXL loading screens, the game was pretty solid overall, so great job! I wish I could play it entirely.
SPOILER:
The part that kept crashing me was the first time a giant moth chases you, I dunno if there are other chases, but the first one it does. I didn't want to say it on the first part because it would ruin the experience for incoming players lol.
Thx, the surprise was the idea of the plot twist, so i'm glad it worked! Also, the sound I did it all by myself, I recorded me doing like a "bah" effect with my own voice, then cut it just a little in Audacity, and the rest is the code itself. Everytime a new character is written in the dialog, the sound stops and plays again, resetting everytime. Also, everytime it resets the pitch of the audio is shifted by a random ammount between -0.1 and +0.1 (or smth like that, I don't remember exactly, lol). If you are planning to implement something similar feel free to ask anything you need. Good luck!
The concept was interesting, I really liked the progression system, although I felt it was pretty slow. Also, I think that, if the goal is to kill the spider and not only surviving, you should be able to aim your shots (specially if hitting it gives you money). The skills felt pretty useless, maybe it was because of the aim thing, but I maxed out the player damage and still couldn't get past half of the boss's hp bar. I feel that I would've enjoyed the game so much more if I could complete it in 4-7 waves, but I played more than that and still felt like I was far from the end.
Dev tip: you move faster when diagonaly because the horizontal and vertical movement stack on each other. That can be fixed by simply normalizing the movement vector! ;)
First of all, I must highly recommend to anyone reading this to play the downloadable version. The web one has some major bugs (at least for me) like the ai don't working at all that made my experience so much worse. Anyway, when I downloaded it that was solved, and none other bug bothered that much.
With that being said, awesome game! I really liked the atmosphere, the usage of lights and post-processing really added a lot to it, and it was well made! I also loved the art style, kinda reminded me of the fnaf minigames, something that I personally liked a lot. I really enjoyed solving the puzzles while escaping from the moths, really kept me fully concentrated.
(Spoiler)
I must admit that I missed a proper ending, when I got to the end I said "Wait, that's it?", at least a final screen would have made me understand that the game was over, but its not like it ruined the whole thing, just left me waiting for something else.
Good job!
