As this is my first ever game jam and first ever game that made public, I am very satisfied with my result.  Many people offered me valuable suggestion that I sure will benefit on the rest of my game dev journey. Also very grateful that the host Game Dev TV provided a free class of my choice so i picked something i always want to learn and so do those creators that supplied free assets even though I didn't use them, I sure will for future games. Reading above, I think most people gathered here to create, to learn and by ranking in the middle of the entire submission, that means I now have 400+ games/game devs I can learn from.

Just hope that this game jam page stay longer so I have time to play through all those that has done better than mine. This (site) will be the most valuable collections of the online course I ever have had on marketing, game design, and community building.

No problem!

You don't have to rate mine if you don't have time. Suggestions will be welcomed even after the jam :)

Wow amazing little game. I love every aspect of this one. Simple but very playable and no confusing at all.

Graphics is good. If you are interested I can suggest 2 things (and plus a bug maybe not sure) that I think can make this even better:

1) perhaps allow some kind of guide line so player can aim. I know... it make the game easier, but perhaps that's a good thing to start. Then later, you can have a radio call in to control tower letting you know something damaged the tracking system so at least player can get a taste of success at beginning then the difficulty just rise :)

2) this i am not sure, but perhaps give player some target tracking missiles with limited supply of course so at least we can shoot down some "drone" LOL this game totally reminds me of what's going on currently in the world. Bases are undefended against drones!

3) this last one not sure maybe a bug, so at the end of the game when i try to quit, the quit button don't do anything so I am not sure.

But all in all, this is a good fun game for me to play. Enjoyed it.

It was quite fun actually. I like the idea you get to pick up other ducks to shoot with you. Perhaps after the jam, you can replace tomato to something relatable to ducks.. perhaps reverse the usual nature pray... like duck's revenge. So instead of tomato, perhaps change to something like alligators or eagles flying across the screen. And the arrow is a bit thick, i think instead of that since this is a mouse game, put something where the pointer is can hint where the bullets (or shoot out duck spits?)  and try to drawn the eagle or disgust the alligators to sink LOL. Not sure, but you do have the fun element and the control is smooth so the game is kinda fun to play.

If you get time, please try out my game and give me some suggestions too! I can see that you do have good ideas so perhaps you can help me with some to help me improve my craft. This is the first time I make a game and join a game jam so took me awhile to figure out what to do (or just have ideas what to do). But I love playing others game too as I feel i have so much to do still.

I agree! Totally forgot to let the dev know about this. Yes I think the selling feature is the graphics, but i was so focused getting the letter right as it was too fast, I couldn't enjoy the graphics (or reading what i typed) at the same time.

Great little game! A bit too difficult for my rusty finger LOL... this reminds me of the typing game that I used before to learn typing, but way more cute. I was searching for a speed adjuster in the setting couldn't find it so i end up going for the unlosable mode :D. If you can add the speed variation, I think this will be even more fun to play :)

Thank you for playing my game!

I sure is taking notice people struggled at beginning finding out how to play so I will have to improve it more once the jam is done.

By the way I tried to play your game too. Does your game has web game mode? I licked it but for some reasons, it is kind of hanged at loading screen (I did see the grey bar), did you use Unity to make the game or other tools maybe i can figure that out. I do see a Windows download but I just switched from Windows to Linux since beginning of the year and due to accident (going to blame Gemini for it)... causing  me unable to go back so I have been on Linux only for pretty much half a year now... LOL not sure i can go back though.

I do have an older version of unupdated Windows running through external SSD for one competitive game that i play but that thing is not safe to install anymore stuff without it crashing :P

I think the tension is just right. Maybe just added a bit of extra gadgets that the player can pick up to fend against the bots would be awesome. But i had a blast trying to hide/run from the bots.

One of the funnest I played so far in 3D. I like the art definitely. Couldn't figure out where the dagger is. LOL but i morphed into a spring was awesome :D

just not sure how to get into the van, i guess I will have to terminal Jim before i extract.

Maybe, give more ways to terminate Slimey Jim would be awesome. like perhaps use spring to bump him into hitting a wall and end that way LOL

Thank you very much iyurael!

Very useful comment I am added to my todo list to further my plan after this game jam for my game :)

Great thank you so much for the details review/suggestions.

I have quite a bit of plan already on my mind but you have just added a few more for me to do after the jam.

:)

great thank you :)

What a team spirit you all have.

Thanks for sharing your setup/experience with me. Definitely going to try some collaboration in future once i am confident about my craft :)

Very nice game! I got stuck on 2nd level though (the one need to hit the red button on the ceiling. For some reasons i couldn't change the color of the glove to transfer anywhere so not sure...

Great little game! I eventually found the dog's master but at that point I wonder if i was lost or just that you haven't done the next level? I opened the door to the right of the dog's master then fall to a really big empty space.. not sure ... Hey but like the game. I think you can tweak the jumping a bit. I know it is cyberdog but for some reasons feel jumping it too much particularly in small hall ways always bumped dog's head against the ceiling. Maybe add an obstacle detection above the dog so when it is near the ceiling, the jump slowdown and put the dog back to the ground then this way when you need to jump high you can and in the hallway it will be smoother i think. :)

Wow amazing little horror game! LOL I survived about a minute only.. do we get spotted if we use flashlight?

I tried not to and survived a minute, but got cornered. Perhaps there should be some kind of stuff we can pick up to kind of hid for a few seconds would make the game even more fun (as player can stay in the game longer).

My is so novice build compare to yours as it is my first game and also first game jam game.. but perhaps you can give me some feedback on how to improve mine would be awesome. Thanks!

Excellent puzzle game! This very much like one of the games on the market but this is like the software version of it. The music is very soothing also love the fact it doesn't penalize someone like me who has limited brain power with puzzles! Like the unlimited retry.

I know you don't like 3D games so I am not going to promote mine because you likely won't like it but if you feel you have some energy today and don't mind exploring, give my game a try and give me some valuable suggestions. Thanks! It is my first game and also first game jam game LOL

I thought I rated this one that ate away my 2 hour of time..

just the time along, this game is completely worth it so i am rating this just in case i forgot LOL. after seeing so many games I am confused sometimes :)

Wow this is amazing! I noticed you do have 3 people working on this but this is still very good in such a short time. Mind to share how you distribute works? I particularly love the guided achievement mechanism, very professionally done. By the way, all good and like the music too for some reasons though it didn't loop when I finished the underground rock destruction part, not sure if it my machine or what.. but maybe look into it.

Definitely way better than mine but if you have time, please come try out my game and give me some ideas how to improve. This is my first one game published and for game jam too so far it has been an amazing experience trying out many games :)

Very good game! Played on Linux.

I enjoy the fun game play very interesting mechanics.

Thank you!!

Your game is indeed very fun to play now i can stopped the enemy a bit while trying to connect with the orb.

Since I am on Linux only system so I couldn't run the .exe as I don't have any windows layer to use. So instead I noticed that there is a code folder with py script inside. So here is what I have done to play the game:

1. Unzip soulofwiztah_3.zip

2. Open a terminal directly inside the folder where main.py lives in the soulofwiztah/code folder

3. Create virtual environment

python3 -m venv venv

4. Activate virtual environment

source venv/bin/activate

5. Move audio, graphics, and data folder inside the code folder

6. install pygame & pytmx  (for tile map)

pip install pygame-ce pytmx

7. run the game

python3 main.py

I am, however, not certain how to make an attack with left mouse button. All else seems to work though. Very cute. When I press left mouse button, nothing seems charging and when i release the mouse button, nothing happen. Holding left mouse button longer didn't help. so I wonder perhaps the way i try to run the game broker it..

Thank you for the details!

This is very helpful to me. Yes getting some cargo to show up on the boat is in the plan but since this is a feature so I will have to do it after the game jam. As for the camera, you are right, I added the mini map on the last minute because it is more useful, so having camera following make it hare to see where the boat is going, make it hard to navigate. I will have this done after the game jam also as this is also something new really, not a bug fix.

Thank you for trying out my game!

I will update instruction to help those who haven't tried :)

Thanks for trying :)

I looked at your game page and I am not sure.. but it does seem working with multiple files uploaded ? Just that perhaps file naming is important since it is difficult to know which one is the newer one (I am guessing based on convention, higher number will be the newer but for some reason i noticed the Window sign is on the first two while not on the second two uploads. So is this a Window's game? I wish I can try (I switched to Linux this year after many years on Windows..), graphic looks nice though on the screenshot.

Great thank you!

I will see if i can reach to game host to clarify. It does seem like Butler is the choice but I don't want submit and void my submission.

This is so far the best game I've played... I think at this current condition, if you add some nice soothing music (I was going nuts at some points LOL) this is 100% commercial ready. There is a little something to fix but not serious: see the screenshot below. Perhaps do a checking if special tile is on the border of screen then display the hint in the opposite direction (anchored on the top-right corner).

This game is soooooo much fun but torturing at the same time after my 8 hours of full time work today... shouldn't started it LOL. I think this game can be a hit for scribble + RPG fans.

I think you can price this like a movie giving the amount of entertainment value this provides for a word puzzle fan.

Please let me know the proper way to upload bug fix if we have one?

I am guessing both of below works

1. We can upload a revision of the game through "Upload files" button.

2. We can use butler to create patch then only the patch will be uploaded.

Thank you Yadir!

What is your game's link? I want to try it as well.

Hey that's good suggestion, yes, I see what i can do there.. I will need to add a pop up (like those ones in comic book near the loading dock like someone say please wait then show the how much total barrel's pick up.

Yes you are right this is a hybrid-simulation game but that's actually on the roadmap (I do have a huge idea bank for this game already at the beginning but chose not to tackle these additional enhancement just to get the game complete... since this is my first and i literally spent 6+ hours learning to hammer our my own music on Saturday... first time creating my own song and graphics too so it was quite a stunt for me.

hmmm "-There are times where you can still navigate your ship at 100% damage." this part is something I noticed too. I think it needs one more hit to sing. I should reduce my sinking mechanism at 99%.

Thanks for reviewing my game for me. All very constructive comments to help me improve my game building skills. THANKS!

Thank you for your suggestions!

Yes I agree the camera definitely need extra work. It does follow player around but in an automatic way so if you sail the boat towards the oil loading dock, as it approach, camera will zoom out to provide a camera crew type of setup. Tried to do something different than just following but I am thinking of putting some additional features to the mini-map to help reduce confusion.

LOL good idea like your new game description. Maybe add some kind of winning conditions would be great as well. If you have no time for winning condition. I have one for you: STEM tower building game using unpredictable block-shapes. inspiring kids to be creative with lego like experience only that they have to use whatever that's given to them to strength creativity building for young curious mind.

Wow Wow Wow... that's a whole lot of stuff you want. Sounds like something fit for an AAA game though.

I think it does have something as an interesting base. What you can do though if you want is to feed these ideas to AI and ask it to tone it done (giving it the amount of time you want this game to be live) and ask it what stuff you should do to get the bare minimum and still entertaining (if it is not entertaining, it is not a game right?)... but importantly ask it to give you ideas on now to design such that the foundation you build for the game jam provide sockets for you to plug in new features/functionalities later.  I think AI will be very good with this in terms of limiting your scope of development.

But man, that design is dope. I think thought the one where you goes crushing down (that complex UI part) perhaps there is a gem hidden there that need extreme creativity to reduce all that into simple /intuitive game play experience.

LOL I told myself not to touch the game ... then this morning I couldn't help myself but to touch the code again at 6am to get a credit button implemented so i can list all the people i used assets from, added vegetation to my landscape so it is not as bare as it was yesterday at 1am.. hopefully you have done it by now. if not, i think you can call it a "bug" without SFX and continue later tonight

I guess perhaps if you can let user select the cube then use gyro sensor on phone to rotate/flip the cube would be interesting option for control. or some kind of magnifying touch layer such that when finger is closer to an area, area is enlarged for easier manipulation with finger tip would be sometime special.

Gemini's reason not to use Unity

Instant Iteration: Godot's instant startup allowed rapid trial-and-error testing for mobile touch overlays. My comment:  I guess this makes vibe coding easier.

Direct Vector Math: GDScript made overriding physics with screen-relative dot/cross products incredibly straightforward. My comment: this is AI's best at... though I can tell you journey wasn't that smooth...

Streamlined UI Hierarchy: Node unique names (%) made connecting menu credits completely hassle-free. My comment: this is pretty true. Godot is pretty simple on this... but if you have addon in Unity, maybe Unity will be easier provided nothing goes wrong between Desktop and Mobile. I found Mobile control is the most difficult to work for my game.. yesterday (the whole day) i pretty much used 6 hours on getting it to work then it broke.. then worked again... until it finally worked at 11pm...   My desktop version was actually done Saturday morning...

Lightweight Web Exports: Fast HTML5 deployment made real-time mobile browser touchscreen testing seamless. This is pretty light weight.. my file size is ~44MB.

I just tried your Petri Dish game LOL, that's interesting, saved it to play this week as I have spent the last 4 days crunching our my own game and going to work during week days.

LOL I kinda feel the same, I started an on screen overlay tutorial... then it introduced new bugs into my already playable game... spent another hour then end up stripping it down to just text tutorial guide... I don't have time to work on more as I have to work tomorrow... but just like you... i was like why don't i put in french... as I am in Canada and it is one of the official language which I am still learning ... Anyway, half way through it... realized french keyboard is different ... LOL I already had enough issue dealing with navigation on both desktop/mobile controls for my game so I gave up that too... looks like you have achieved all that I wanted to do!

I see your game is a Windows game. Would you be able to work on a web version so we can try?

Thanks ^_^

Here is the specifics https://itch.io/docs/creators/html5#zip-file-requirements

In summary

  • The ZIP file should not contain more than 1,000 individual files after extraction.
  • The maximum length of a file name including path should not be greater than 240 characters long.
  • The size of all the extracted content should not be greater than 500MB.
  • The size any single extracted file should not be greater than 200MB.
  • The filenames are case sensitive and should be encoded as UTF-8

Your number 206,591 KB is pretty close to borderline... 1MB = 1024  KB... so 206,591KB = 201.75 MB....

if you can squeeze out about 2MB you should be fine. When you zip up your project, perhaps don't let app default zip for you, you can tweak zip to give you maximum compression. Make sure you choose the correct settings. And like others already suggested, perhaps reduce some of the resources you added, like sound make sure you don't use wav or mp3, change to ogg. will significantly reduce your file size.

Hopefully this helps... i know it is pretty late as i just finished my own game.

If you have finished yours, let me know i wonder what you have made the game so large in size. Mine is only 44MB..

My game is here, when you have a chance please give it a try and let me know what i can improve upon. Thanks!
